We found out we are having a boy a few weeks ago, and I have been having a hard time finding names that I like and that DH agrees on.
I asked him about Jasper thinking he would shoot it down, and he actually likes it. I like it too, and I was wondering what others thought of it.
ETA: I also like Oliver, but I don't like how popular it is/is getting. I like that Jasper is not popular or over used, but still recognizable. My other top choice that DH didn't want was Felix.
Re: What do you think of when you hear Jasper?
I have a bad association with the name because of a Jasper I knew as a child. However, while it's NMS, I don't think it's a bad name, and I wouldn't have any problem hearing it on someone else.
In fact, knowing more than just the one Jasper would probably help me like the name a bit more.

I think of Twilight. Since I am a fan of Twilight, I am avoiding all Twilight names so people don't think I am nutty enough to name my kid after it. That is why I crossed Alice off our girl list.
Edit to add: James is a character in Twilight but not a main character. LOL.
Oh, shoot. I've never read or seen any of the Twilight series, so I had no idea there was a Jasper.
Besides Twilight, I think of the lanky crook in 101 Dalamatians...
I think of an old man. I don't know why.
And Twilight.
I just want to give you a world as beautiful as you are to me.
I think of him too! I thought I'd be the only one!
I'll admit, I've neer seen or read Twilight. If it's a rather well known association (which it looks like it may be, due to the several posts about it), it would probably make me scratch it off my list. I do like it, though! I used to have a boy cabbage patch doll named Jasper, so I have a soft spot for it
I'm from Texas so when I hear it I think of the black man that was drug behind a truck in Jasper.
I just looked it up and it happend it 1998...I was 11 so I don't know how I remember that but as long as you aren't from here then it should be fine.
I love Oliver.

I like it. I think of the plant. It has some of the same vibe as Sage to me. Earthy and Hippy-esque.
also I think it works with your DD's name.
This LOL.
I've never read twilight or watched the movies, but my first thought was the tall lanky bad guy on 101 dalmations. And then, being a previous jewler I though of the jem stone, which is said to have "healing power" and is the feb birthstone (gem is amythist) So a little positive association despite the ususal "bad guy name"
With that said, I like the name Jasper. Its different, and easy to pronouce.
Jasper Jacks "Jax" from General Hospital.
Same here! I then thought of an episode of Bones where Bones says that if she had a pet pig she'd name him Jasper, because that's the best name for a pig. Random.
Since I'm pretty sure I'm alone in being reminded of those two things I refer back to my first statement: I like it. I think it's cute.

It is a fine name that seems to be making a comeback.
I think of it as a hippie name though because the only Jasper I knew growing up was the brother of my friend Amber. Hello, PNW style sibset!
I love your taste in names!
Jasper, Oliver and Felix are all very sweet IMO
I'm two years older than you, also from TX, and this didn't even cross my mind.
I like the name.Never read a page of Twilight and had never heard of a Jasper, though I worked in a bookstore when several of them were released.
It makes me think of Jasper Bloom from The Holiday, which I just watched last week
Twilight. The only reason I have that association though is because that character is played by easily the hottest guy in the movie.
Overall, I have always loved that name though.
Same here (from another Texas girl).
