Perinatal Associates at GBMC?

Thank you for all the rec's below.. I did call Charles Street to make an appointment for next week, and the receptionist was so sweet so that's a plus!

Perinatal Associates is on our referral list at work but I haven't heard anyone mention them and I haven't made my pregnancy public info yet so I didn't want to ask around... has anyone heard or experienced anything with them?  Good or bad? One thing I did find was that one of their doctors, Dr. Weitz, was on the Baltimore Top Docs list a year or two ago, but that doesn't tell me much about the practice as a whole.

Thanks!

Re: Perinatal Associates at GBMC?

  • I loved Dr Weitz!  She is a great OB.  My only problem was that they share hospital coverage with another practice so although I saw most the the DRs at Perinatal Associates non of them delivered my son......

It great because they have an US machine in the office and there is a the lab to get your blood work done downstairs (in the hospital).  Her office is attached to GBMC.

  • Hmm... that's interesting.  Since I know nothing about OB world this is news to me. I don't want to have a Knocked Up experience and deliver with someone who's a perfect stranger.  But since this pregnancy has already proved some things are out of my control, maybe you could tell me how that experience was? Delivering with a different doctor?

I think we're going to go on a few "dates" before choosing an OB, and I'll be sure to ask about the shared coverage - thanks for the insight!

  • I went with a solo practitioner and still ended up having a stranger deliver my daughter.  She was early and came really fast.  My dr didn't have time to scrub up so the attending on the floor had to run in and catch the baby.  DD was out in 3 contractions once I started pushing.

Ideally I would have loved for my OB to deliver my daughter but ultimately I didn't care if it was the man-in-the-moon down there.

  • I think that most of the OBs at GBMC rotate coverage with each other, so techically you could end up with any of them delivering you if you went into labor over the weekend or at night.

  • I used Dr. Hunter at Perinatal Associates.  I only saw her which was nice.  She did end up delivering my baby since I had a scheduled c-section for a breech baby.  I liked not having to see other Drs.
  • I'm late on this but I was going to them for a few years before I got pregnant, which was fine. Then when I was pregnant I really felt like I wasn't getting the kind of information necessary and didn't feel comfortable. When I was diagnosed with GD, the doctor didn't even tell me - and I was on hold for over 30 minutes several times to get all the information I needed or to make appointments. They were just too crazy busy all the time and I did not like it for my first pregnancy. Add to that, everyone I know who went there ended up with c-sections, and that's not the path I wanted to travel.

  • The rotating practice thing would deter me. I was guaranteed one of my doctors to deliver and I went with OBGYN Specialists of MD. They deliver at GBMC and I had a fantastic experience with them.
