TTC after 35

XP: WTF appt

I had my WTF appt today from IVF#2. My RE will not cycle me again unless I do DE. She said I have a numbers problem (ie don't get enough eggs) and a poor quality problem so she doesn't see the point in trying again. If my quality was better or number of eggs was higher, she would let me keep going but she feels like it's less than a 5% chance now with IVF. So I have the same likelihood of getting pg with IVF as I do naturally... I was given the DE packet of info, signed a medical release form in case I want to get another opinion and that's it...

I feel like there is no where left for me to try in my area and everyone else in MA/RI will tell me the same thing. I can't justify traveling to another area unless there was something drastrically different to try. With a 5% chance, I don't know that I can spend the $$ if we are going to consider DE. It's one or the other and I'm afraid I will end up with nothing. I'm just broken.

TTC #1 since 8/1/10; Me:41 and BRCA1+, DH:46

  • I hate that you are going through this, McIrish.  I am so, so sorry and can't think of any encouraging words.  I hope that it helps at least a very small bit to know that we are rooting for you and here for you.

  • I'm so sorry McIrish. Like owlprof, I am afraid I can't think of anything to say that will make you feel better.  You have really fought the good fight all the way through and there are no words except for I'm so sorry. Huge hugs to you.

I'm so sorry they don't have any better answers for you sweetie.  IF is so unfair and illogical and stupid.

If you do decide that you want another opinion, you could do a phone consult with CCRM or one of the other clinics that specializes in DOR (CCRM is the only one I know for sure will do an initial consult by phone, but I'm sure some of the others do as well).  They might tell you the same thing, but it's possible they could have other ideas and it might help you to at least know that you've tried everything there is to try with your own eggs before moving on to something else.

I know you're in an incredibly difficult position and faced with less-than-ideal options.  Best wishes to you in figuring this out.  ((Big Hugs))

  • I'm so sorry, sweetie.  Left Hug  This is heartbreaking.  It's awful to be told by the RE she won't cycle you any more with OE, even if you might have decided to go the DE route on your own.  It's not fair.  Take care of yourself as you grieve.  In a few days or weeks you can think through all of your options with a clearer head.

  • Big, big (((Hugs))).  I wish I had words to make you feel better....

  • Oh McIrish, I am so, so very sorry.  Life has certainly dealt you a crappy hand.  You have been through so much on your IF journey, it seems so unfair that you are at the crossroads you now find yourself at.  You should take some time to absorb this news and if/when you are ready, you should try to talk to some other ladies that have gone the DE route.  Maybe speaking with others that have been forced down that road will help you determine if DE is an option for you.  In the meantime, we are here for you to vent to and support you.  I will continue to pray for you. ((HUGS))

Take care of yourself and remember, there's no reason you need to make the DE decision in the immediate future.

You definitely have time to think about this option and feel it out to think if it is right for you. I am sorry that you had to hear that though. The RE can be a very hopeful place and a completely disheartening and mind-numbing place depending on the day.  Sending lots of hugs and support your way. • Oh, McIrish, I am so sorry.  You know how much my heart breaks for you.

At the same time, I have to hand it to your RE for standing her ground and not just allowing you to continue to cycle when she doesn't think it will work for you.  In a way, I slightly disagree with one of the PPs -- that is, in a way the RE may have helped you make a decision that could have been too hard for you to make on your own.  Don't kill me for saying that!

You will NOT end up with nothing -- many DE programs, including mine, having money-back options.  Plus, you are early in the game for DE if that's what you choose to do, though I know you are also on a clock.  But you have tons of time to decide, if that's the path you want to take.  Give yourself time to grieve, first--I know I did.  And still do, even as I go into my DE cycle.

No killing from me. I agree with you. I don't want a doc that is going to sugar coat. It's tough to just throw in the towel when I just need that one good egg. It's got to be in there somewhere and it's so hard to walk away from that thought.  My other "new" issue on top of DE is if we do DE, do I remove the ovaries first?  I won't need them and apparently doing DE is easily without them as they don't have to sync me up with the donor since I would already be on HRT. Another host of issues to decide. Not sure when this gets easy..  Hope you are still on track for early December ET?

Where is your DHs head these days on DE? I know he was against it before, is it now a possibility?

You even came over to my house and picked them up. You should know in my dream you are really tall, really skinny and have flame red hair. : )
