Ugh! Now with our second baby I'm going through the monitor search again. I love our video one, but wanted to get a more portable audio monitor for our newborn since she sleeps all over the house. The graco one I have sucks! It's signal keeps going in/out for no reason. Please reco one you love. Typically I need it to work through 1-2 level of floors. Thanks!
I LOVE this monitor - it has been in continual use for about three months. I've found the limits of it, which are that i can still go to the end of my backyard (1/3 acre) and hear the girl and can go to the front of my house and get good reception. DD sleeps on the second floor and i have perfect reception on the first floor and in the basement (i live in an old house). I don't know if it'll stay this strong but so far, so good.
Our Sony Babycall monitor works really well. Our house is 5 levels (kind of like a split level) and the baby's room is on the top floor. The monitor works all the way down in the basement.
We also have a Sony Baby call, used it in a townhouse without any problems with interference or range issues and now in our house too. DH has used it outside in the front yard quite bit away from DDs room and hasn't had a problem. I also like the lights that light up so you can look at it and see if it's going off even if there is noise in the room you are in from TV, sink, people, etc.
Re: Is it really that hard to make a monitor that works?
I have the Phillips Avent monitor:
