Swings

We have a Snug-a-Bunny swing.  I usually put DS in it about 3 times a day for naps and leave it swinging (on the lowest speed).  He usually sleeps for about 2 hours at a time.  My mom and DH have both said, "Should he be swinging for that long?"  I feel like it's fine, but I'm not sure.  Do you all leave your kids swinging for a while or do you turn it off when they're asleep?

Re: Swings

  • DS2 hasn't slept in his crib once yet (not for lack of trying either).  He went from being held for all sleep to sleeping in the swing.  DS1 loved the swing as well (for naps anyway... he slept in his crib at night).  I don't think there's anything wrong with swings.

  • is it supervised?  their little heads can fall forward and their airways can get cut off.  please don't let LO sleep in the swing for long periods of time if you aren't right there.

  • We let DD continue to swing when she's asleep.  We never leave her alone for long periods of time and we're currently using the side-to-side swinging on the lowest setting.  I don't see any reason why it would be bad for her, she seems comforted by the motion.  She only uses it during the day, she sleeps in her crib overnight.

I've seen this said before, but how is it possible for their head to fall forward on the snugabunny swing.  They are lying on their backs.  Maybe I'm just missing something!  We always supervise via monitor or in the room, but 'm just curious!

Oh yeah, I'm here with him for the most part.  Only leave to put up laundry, etc. here and there.

  • LO sleeps in his snugabunny swing for up to 2-3 hours sometimes.  He usually takes 3 naps a day in it.  I simply watch him on the monitor while he naps.  He LOVES it!  And I get lots of things done around the house....

They aren't flat on their backs, they are on an incline and if they fall asleep while swinging front to back their head can slump forward.

  • We keep it running.  She takes most of her naps in the swing and I don't stop it when she falls asleep.  She liked being on the move- she'll wake up if it stops swinging.  I do check on her periodically to make sure she's okay.  I'll prop her back up if she slumps over too far.

  • I don't see anything wrong with it if your LO likes it.  I'd leave LO swinging while sleeping if it made him take a good nap.
