Opinion: is 5yrs old too old for the bathtub Xmas card?

I'm still trying to figure out a cute idea for our Christmas cards this year.... he's not 5 yet, but will be 2 weeks after Christmas.  Is that too old for a pic in the tub wearing a Santa hat and lots of bubbles on his face like a Santa beard?  It would only be from the chest up, and I was going to make a cute sign for him to hold that says "ho ho ho," so that would mostly cover up any nakedness.  I thought it was cute, but DH said it would be cute if DS was 2, not almost 5.

Thoughts?

  • Crap, ok. The only thing you'd see is his face covered in bubbles with the Santa hat, since he's be holding a sign, and it would be cropped.  Oh well.

Knowing mom is in the bathroom with a camera and a five year old makes it creepy for me. I don't need to "see" anything for it to make me uncomfortable. I'd feel badly for the kid.
while ITA that it is too old for a bathtub pic, your comment got me wondering. Is it creepy that mom's in the bathroom or creepy cuz of the camera? I still bathe my 5 year old and I still wipe him after he goes to bathroom. He is not motivated enough to wipe or wash adequately without supervision. Am I creepy too???

But do you document it and save it to your hard drive and send it to your friends?

    That's the creepy part.

  • How 'bout you do a similar thing with shaving cream? He could be fully dressed and still have the beard effect. You could even do his pic in the reflection of the mirror like he's a young man about to shave.

Love this alternative!  Write Ho, ho, ho on the mirror.

  • Ok ok I get it, I win Creepy Mom of the Year award. It's not like he's 8, he's still 4, and the only part of his skin that would be showing would be his arms, since I'd crop it and he'd be holding a sign.  I like the shaving cream idea, but again, if I'm looking in on him in the bathroom, I'm sure some people out there would still say it's weird.  I suppose a pic of him holding guns with Santa would get a laugh, like a saw earlier. Indifferent

  • I agree with your DH - cute at age 2 or younger, not OK for a 5 year old.
