Parenting after a Loss

2 month shots

D has his 2 month shots tomorrow.

Anyone who's BTDT have advice about what I should have on hand at home (Tylenol?) or what I should expect from him afterwards (assuming cranky, just not sure what else).

Re: 2 month shots

  • We never pre-medicated DD.  She usually would sleep for about 3 hours after her shots and we spent the rest of the day cuddling and playing.  I'd always check for fever and when (if) she started, would give the tylenol and then one more dose before bed.

I'd just prepare for a rough couple nights, possibly.  We did a lot of rocking. And a little crankier baby than usual.  At two months, it was only about 2 days.

    ((hugs))

  • They told me not to premedicate.  Said they'll dose him with Tylenol themselves before the shots (want to weigh him to be sure they dose him right).  I have to run out to the store today though, I'll get some infant Tylenol for at home just in case.  Hopefully we won't need it, but better to have it just in case.

I figured as much on the cuddles, especially since tetanus is on the agenda...that one always makes me sore for a few days.

  • I am glad you posted this because I am going to take DS for his 2 month shots today.  I am totally dreading this day.  Sending you hugs for your appointment tomorrow.

  • We did Tylenol right before the appt and every 4hrs which our Pedi said was fine. She of course cried pretty good when getting them but settled really quickly. I nursed her right after and she fell asleep. We weren't the lucky ones who got a super sleepy baby though. She napped normal but when awake she was cranky and hard to get to sleep. She did sleep over 6hrs that night which is the most ever. She was back to normal the next morning.

  • We bought Tylenol and gave it to her at the doctor's office right after the shots.  I nursed her there in the exam room until she calmed down long enough for us to leave.  We spent most of the afternoon nursing and cuddling and continuing Tylenol until bedtime.  Her tetanus shot injection site was very sore for a few days but other than that she was back to normal the next day.

  • We always give Tylenol right before they give the shots and every 4 hours for the rest of the night.

Have a boob or bottle ready as soon as they give the shots.  It's amazing how quickly it will calm them down.

GL! I lost it at DS's 2 month shots.

This is my plan.  Usually if I need to nurse in the docs office I rig something with the crappy pillows they have there.  Tomorrow, I'm bringing in the big guns (boppy).  Figure he's going to be piiiissed and I'm not going to want to eff around with things.  I'm going to want to make it better.  Immediately.

Really not looking forward to this.  I know I can do it (he had IVs and heel pricks when we were in the hospital), but I'm dreading that cry of pain and not being able to stop it.
