Art Easel Question

DS loves to color and I think he would love an easel BUT I am scared to get one.  As is we have to hind the washable crayons after a carpet coloring incident that remains to haunt us even after a professional cleaning.  So for those of you who have one is your child constantly supervised when they are using it or do they just remember to stay on the paper only.  Do you remove the crayons when not in use.  I'm thinking even chalk can get messy too.  Am I making a big deal over nothing or is my kid just a pain in the ass.

Re: Art Easel Question

  • Well, you could buy the cheap one from Ikea just in case it doesn't get much use. That is what we have and I totally have to supervise him with this or with any writing instrument. He just has not taken to coloring the proper way yet.

  • We have the Ikea easel and C paints pictures on it pretty frequently. She has never tried to paint anything but the paper, but it's definitely a closely supervised activity. Either DH or I are always right next to her when she paints because I know the 1 time we aren't right there will be the time she decides that the wall needs to be decorated. She does love it and uses it a few times a week.
  • when we first got our easel, it was outdoor use only. problem solved.

  • Ours is a when supervised only toy.  When we're using it I throw down a splat mat and let them go nuts.  But I put up the chalk/markers/paint as soon as we're done.

So it doesn't see as much use as some toys, but the girls both love it when I let them at it!
