Parenting after a Loss

WDYD to settle a 6 month old down for a nap?

LO hates to nap.  She's obviously tired because she's rubbing her eyes, yawning and acting fussy.  I take her in her room, change her, read a story, sing a few songs, put her in the crib and turn on the mobile.  Sometimes she plays awhile and drifts off to sleep.  But more recently she cries and cries (with me checking on her every five minutes)

What am I missing?  What else can I do to help her relax and take a nap short of letting her fall asleep in my arms?  (and that doesn't really happen much anymore).

  • Last week was great.  She cried 5 or 10 minutes then fell asleep.  But this week its all fallen apart.  I suspect DH of picking her up and cuddling her instead of CIO when I was occupied over the 4 day weekend.  Bedtime was a disaster last night and he fessed up to picking her up after the third round of going in and shushing her.  <sigh>

  • We battled this and honestly I had to learn to walk away for a bit.  She would fight and fight them afraid she'd miss out on something.  I'd give her a bottle in her rocking chair, then rock her and if she still didn't go down, would put her in her crib with the mobile and seahorse on (with her lovey) and give her the 10 minute rule.  If she still wouldn't go down, I'd go in, try and rock her...rinse and repeat.
