I've wanted a homebirth more and more as time goes on- didn't at all with DD, loved the idea but didn't press Dh about it with DS, and this time- money is a big factor, plus the fact that Dh always said that's where he drew the line with my crunchy-granola stuff, lol.
Last night, we watched 3 of the more BOBB dvds, and I texted him today saying, "I know it's not an option, but I really want a homebirth." He called and I told him that seeing those films and hearing all those birth stories really made me want one. He said he agreed!! He is still concerned about the "what if", but I reminded him of a line in the film- an OB (or midwife) was talking about it becoming life threatening where you'd need emergency care within minutes and he/she said "I've never seen it go from normal to emergency with no red flags. An experienced provider would look for those red flags and transfer well before it became life and death." (or something to that effect).
IDK- I know he's still kind of against it, and I think things will be fine in the hospital (I have a supportive OB and this is baby 3- the L&D staff ususally leaves 2+ time moms alone), but the thought of having the baby at home is sooooooooo appealing. I wish we would've talked about it sooner so we could plan to pay for it. ![]()
No real reason for this post...just needed to get it out somewhere, lol.
Re: Husband finally open to homebirth...probably too late
I was in your shoes - two hospital births and my husband was opposed to the idea both times. He changed his mind with #3 so I had the HB and it was the best decision I could have made. I loved being home and it made the transition from 2 to 3 much easier IMO. My kids reacted well to the baby, I got much more rest, people were much more helpful (I think because they knew I had a HB, they wanted to bring me food and do the things for me that would have been done at the hospital).
Maybe you could meet with some MWs to discuss it. The price of a HB includes the prenatal care and because you are so far into your pregnancy, perhaps the birth would be cheaper than you think.
Good luck with whatever decision you make
DOOOO IT!!
But seriously, if you want to talk home birth, you know where to find me!
You owe it to yourself to meet with a few homebirth midwives to figure out your $$$ options. Some take insurance. Mine gave a discount because I switched at 36 weeks, so she didn't do most of my prenatal care. Others will work out payment plans.
If you meet with them and the finances just don't work out, at least you won't wonder "what if..."
Mommy to DD1 (June 2007), DS (January 2010), DD2 (July 2012), and The Next One (EDD 3/31/2015)
LOL What is it about the BOBB just seems to click with men?
Start calling around right away and see who is still available. You have plenty of time to figure it all out.
Best wishes.
