Convertible Car Seat Question

DH and I will need 4 car seats since we are never sure who will drop off/pick up from daycare.  The only time the boys are ever really in my car is for the ride to/from daycare which is a mile from home.  I was thinking instead of spending a ton on 4, I could get less expensive ones for my car as long as the safery rating was good.  I read on another board the evenflow triumph was rated well and so were some Britax models.

What did you choose??

Re: Convertible Car Seat Question

  • We got two of the Evenflo Triumph Advances for my car (~$160 each), since they are in my car the majority of the time.  The girls seemed the most comfortable in these (more so than the Marathons even), they have taller slots than all other convertibles and I really liked the infinite halter adjustment feature.  Plus, I really liked the Sandbox pattern (stupid, I know).

We ended up getting the Cosco Sceneras for my parents car.  They watch the girls and sometimes take them on day trips.  They are a steal - about $50 each - safe, simple and I also liked that they are easy to travel with.  They get great reviews as a second car seat on www.carseat.org.

I figure we will get the Graco Nautilus seats once they outgrow the Sceneras.

Here's what we got for the second seat:

  • We are getting the Recaro Signo car seats.  They are actually rated better than the britax for both forward and rear facing.  This is where I got my info:

  • For your cars  Evenflo Triumph Advance car seats are really great seats and are rated along with Britax just at a lower price range.  First Year true fit are also up their with the britax seats.  Cosco as a car seat at walmart, target, kmart and sears that is around $43.00 and sears often has them on sale for $35.00 they are good for sitters are extra seats but dont have a high harness or weight limit so you would still need to buy a high weight harness car seat in a few years to replace them.  One problem with the fisher price one that was posted is it is no longer made so the car seats you would get are at least a year old or more so you have lots that much of that seat.  Car seats are only good for 6 years.  I have also been told by other techs that the Recaro are older seats as well because that are not sold to often.
