Pregnant after IF

Ultrasound question

I went in for my first u/s today...I am 5w5d. We saw a yolk sac, but no heartbeat. Is it too early?

The worrying never ends!

TIA!!

Re: Ultrasound question

  • I had an u/s at 5w5d as well- all we saw was the yolk sac. I think it's still way too early for a heartbeat, so try not to worry!

After 2 1/2 years TTC, 3 IUI's, endo, and a lap, a surprise BFP brought us Alexandra Marie!

  • I think 5w5d would be very early to see a heartbeat. I think generally it is normal to see it around 6 weeks, sometimes plus a few days. Hopefully next week, you will have a beautiful heartbeat!
    IUIs #1-3 (1x unmedicated, 2x Clomid) = 2 BFNs, 1 m/c at 7w3d
    IUIs #4-6 (injects) = 3 BFNs
    IVF #1 = BFN
    FET #1 = BFN
    FET #2 = BFN
IVF #2 = BFP, b/g twins lost at 20w due to partial abruption/PPROM
    IVF #3 = c/p 5w2d
Long-shot Clomid/Prednisone cycle before next IVF = BFP, our beautiful, healthy girl born 6/26/13!

  • Thank you ladies! It's so funny that the doctor can tell us something, but it doesn't really ring true until you hear it from other women going through the same thing ! :)

Will try to keep my mind occupied for the next week...ARGH!

At my first u/s (6w1d) all we saw was the yolk sac also. At that early, what you saw is completely normal :)

  • You're probably just a couple of days early.  The HB shows up between 6 and 7 weeks.  We only saw a yolk sac at 5w3d, but a week later, the HB was there.

  • I went in for my first appointment at 7 1/2 weeks and there was a little heartbeat. It's usually between 6 1/2 to 7 weeks that a heartbeat can first be detected.

  • I know its easier said than done, but I would try not to worry.  5w5d is really early to see a hb.  It typically will be starting in the next couple of days.  At my first u/s at 6w, they did not see the hb of one of the twins.  It wasn't until a few days later that it could be detected.

    Good luck!

  • I had my first u/s at 5w6d and didn't see a heartbeat just a yold sac and gestational sac.  I went back at 6w6d and we saw a heartbeat.  It is my understanding that it is supposed to start by 7 weeks.  So, anytime before that, can just be too early!  Good luck!

  • My u/s is scheduled for 6 weeks on the nose and the nurse told me that we may not hear a heartbeat on that day.  No worries, at least not about this.  You're doing great!
