Pregnant after a Loss

bottles?

What kind of bottles is everyone getting?

I am quite overwhelmed with the different kinds and what I should get.  I was originally thinking Playtex (the ones that curve) but a friend of mine said Dr. Browns are good.

Also if you are planning on breastfeeding, are you buying the seperate bottles that go with the pump?  (for example Madela).

Re: bottles?

  • I registered for Dr. Browns & Born Free - but only a 2 or 4 pack of each.  I plan to BF, but I don't want to purchase a ton of bottles until I know what kind LO will like.  Once we settle on a brand, then I'll purchase more and get any accessories that may be needed.

  • We did Dr. Brown's and will do them again.  The best part is that they fit the Medela pump, so if you want to pump directly into them you can.  I highly recommend them!

  • I am planning on BFing but wanted another option just in case....I went with the platex drop ins.  I didn't know so I just picked the ones that the pedi reccomended for going back and forth if we had to supplement or pump.

He said they reduce gas and tummy troubles and they are less confusing.  I jsut said ok and bought 4 and two packs of liners....

  • I did try nursing, but G wouldn't latch, so I pumped for 3 months instead. We used breastflow for a while, but G didn't like them. So we tried Nuk, but they were too fast for him. We finally hit it with Playtex drop-ins. Plus, G had reflux, so it helped that the drop-ins basically acted like a vaccuum. It reduced the spit up for us.

  • I plan on breastfeeding but I have bought a few Playtex drop-ins. I used them for DD and loved them! I think I read somewhere that you can pump into the bags but I need to go research that!

Most bottles will fit the Medela pump.   However, with Playtex (they won't fit) you can buy an attachment for the bottle to use the bottles to pump into.

I exclusively pumped for a year.  We tried a few different types of bottles with DS before we settled on Dr. Brown's (which I honestly hated, too many parts to clean and they leaked a lot of the time! but they worked best for DS).  So my advice is to not buy a lot of one type so you can see what works best for your baby, since every baby is different.

  • Thanks everyone for the info!  I definitely think I am going to delete the Madela bottles from my registry and try the Dr Browns (but only a few of each).  Then if he likes them I can buy more (or try other ones, if he doesn't like them).

  • We registered for all different kinds of bottles and figured we'd try them and see what we liked best. We did not like the medela ones that came with the pump - but I still use them to pump into. The nipples did not work for DD. Then we tried the Playtex VentAire. I can also pump right into these using my medela PISA (I am actually doing it right now!). We like these and have stuck with them so far. We still have Playtex Drop-ins and Dr. Browns to try out at some point.

  • We had playtex vent-air and drop-ins. She liked them both. We also tried a few different kinds. It was good b/c DD never got "particular" to one nipple. She could drink out of any bottle without giving me problems. So if we were at a friends house and I forgot a bottle, I could just use one of theirs. (just an example). It was very nice.

  • I'm going to be an exclusive formula feeder (am unable to breastfeed) and after doing a lot of research, I have gone with Dr Brown's.  That being said, if you plan on breast feeding, I would just get one or two of each of your top choices and see what baby prefers.  They are pickier if they have been BF than not.
