Ok so DS is going to be 4 months old on Friday! Can't believe it!! Ok so here's the thing....she still despises tummy time!! I continue to do it but after a few minutes she's screaming. Which means she hasn't rolled over yet either. I've tried the whole getting on the floor with her, putting toys down, etc etc. but nothing works!! Any others still hate tummy time and not rolled over yet? Should I be concerned yet? I'll probably just ask the doc at her appt on friday.

Re: Tummy time and rolling over...
DS#1- Born August 2011
I am going to have to try this. LO is doing a lot better with tummy time now that he lifts up on his hands but, it wouldnt hurt to see if he would do it more this way.
DD hated this too but now she's a champ. She's still not rolling either. I like pp's idea of naked tummy time so we will try that. Here's what our physical therapists (for torticollis) have suggested:
Try an exercise ball. Roll her so she's more on her tummy for more work, and when she gets tired and fussy you can give her a break by rolling her backward for more of an incline. Anything on an incline will help her: a boppy, couch cushion, or even your leg.
Carry her like an airplane. I swoop her up to DH's face and she laughs, or at the TV, and then back again. It's also a good workout for your arms. Similar would be to hold her in front of a mirror upright, at an angle, then back to center, then angle the other way. This works the side neck muscles. Any position you hold them where they have to work their neck muscles is tummy time. The point is to strenghten the neck. Motor planning comes later, and rolling over is not expected until 6 months. You can work on motor planning by physically rolling her over onto her back, then take her hands and pull her to sitting, then back down again, then onto tummy again, and so on. She can't do it on her own yet, but you're training her brain to think that way.
Again, any way you hold her that works her neck muscles, just carrying her around upright, in a bumbo, etc is tummy time. You probably are getting much more in than you think you are. To expect a baby to do more than a few min at a time is unrealistic anyway. It's a lot of work! It used to be a chore for us and now it's fun! Especially before bed and then she's very tuckered and STTN. HTH!
Same thing happening here. Don't worry. Every baby has their own pace when it comes to learning new skills. Try and remind yourself that a year from now, no one will be able to tell our LO's were late "roller over's"
