Naptime where and how?

My almost 4 month old used to like her swing for naps.  In the last week she has decided she hates it.  She now likes napping in the ergo or while being held.  Occasionally she will nap in her crib but this is rare. She has also started fighting naps hard.  Should I work on her napping in her crib does it matter where she naps?  I'm not sure what is best, but I want her naps to be more peaceful for her..less screaming etc. :)

Re: Naptime where and how?

  • Does swaddling help? I was having trouble with the crib for naps for a couple weeks and that helped a lot.  I also tried letting him nap in the RNP and on our bed.  Once he got that down, we moved to the crib so he'd be ready for daycare.

  • We've always put LO in the PnP for naps. He rarely will nap in his swing.

  • She sleeps longer and better in her crib. Her last nap of the day she is usually in her swing and its 45 minutes tops.
  • DS started to nap in his crib a few weeks ago--before that he always napped in his swing.  Around 9 weeks he started to show better signs of when he was tired so I would put him in the crib then, and he often will fall asleep on his own now.

she takes usually 3 naps a day.

nap 1-  after breakfast- about 1hour- usually in a bouncy chair or playmat. usually about 1 hour. i just leave her wherever she fell asleep.

nap 2 (the big one) usually goes down around noon-1pm in her crib- this is a good 3 hour nap. when she is getting drowsy around this time i will put her in her crib drowsy, or once she is asleep (depending on what we were doing)

nap 3- after eating/playing - but before bedtime- usually falls asleep while playing, or being held and usually brought to her crib. usually 1 hour.

This is our routine too! Sometimes she does another one right before daddy gets home if we go out that day shopping because that wears her out. I usually let her sleep where she wants because moving her wakes her up, but for the big nap it is always in her crib. At first she would wake up, but now we are getting longer stretches of time. You might try moving the swing or RnP into the nursery at first so she gets used to the room, it helped me to get her familiar with it because we have her sleeping in our room still during the night.
