Natural Birth

Getting my Dr. on Board

Even since becoming pregnant, all I want to do is have a natural birth for many reasons.  I know that sometimes things can happen, such as her being breached, and things can change, but this is something I strongly want to do if possible.  I am seeing my OB tomorrow, who I love, and want to discuss this with them now that I am 6 months.  I am worried that they will not be on board with everything I want to do and may push things. Any tips on talking to my OB about this? Thanks ladies :)

  • I didn't have any issues, but showing that you've done your research and know what to expect in different situations and being specific about how your going to handle pain otherwise would probably help.

I agree with this. However, if your OB is not on board, you might want to search for a midwife. Many midwives do attend hospital births, if your preference is to deliver at the hospital.

  • Be kind and CERTAIN of what you want. Sometimes, if they see that you are well researched, they will be fine, even if they are more mainstream. If for any reason you feel like your doc will not be 100% supportive of your wishes, switch to another OB who will or find a midwife if possible.

Maybe even write down what interventions you are not comfortable with, so he/she knows up front. Good luck.
