Refusing the bottle. HELP!

I posted something about this on the FB page yesterday.  Suddenly DD is on some kind of hunger strike.  She will take 1 or 2 oz of her bottle then completely refuse to take anymore.  Yesterday she I was only able to get her to take about 17 oz total for the day when she normally would take 23-25.  She is not crying when she does it, seems happy and not feverish.  She laughs, smiles, and plays through the day like normal and is still STTN.

This morning she took 2 oz and then refused the rest.  She had slept from about 8 last night until I had to wake her up to get ready to leave for work at 6:15 AM so I know she had to be hungry after sleeping all that time.

I called the pedi this morning and the nurse suggested we try tylenol 20 minutes before her bottle because it might have something to do with teething.  I have the babysitter trying this out and am crossing my fingers that does the trick.

Anyone else run into this issue at any point?  I am at my wits end with this and appreciate any feedback.

Re: Refusing the bottle. HELP!

  • Yes, my Ds was doing this last week.  I started giving the teething tablets a little before and he seemed to eat better.  He is also getting to the point where he is distracted by EVERYTHING so he doesn't want to eat.. a few times I've had to take him into his bedroom and sit in practically the dark for him to eat, lol.

  • I really don't think anything of it, but my child, who graduated to 5 ounces of BM through a bottle a few weeks ago now refuses to finish his bottles. He'll take 2 or 3 ounces at a time and he's still eating every 2 - 2.5 hrs. He never slept through the night and still doesnt. I just figured if he's hungry, he'll eat.

    So much for a schedule...

  • Update:  I had the babysitter give her tylenol before her bottle as the pedi nurse suggested.  She did take the whole bottle so hopefully it is the teething.  The nurse told me when they are cutting a tooth sometimes the sucking when taking the bottle can irritate them.  We are supposed to monitor her for other symptoms for 24-48 hrs and bring her in if she shows any.
