Re: Irish Girl's Name Options

  • I've seen Fiona spelled both ways.... I haven't yet decided which version I like.
  • I probably would have chosen Maeve if it weren't for the M middle names.  I think Carina flows best with Marielle, but as a name, it's NMS.  Is is really Irish?  I believe you, but it sounds Italian to me.

  • I like them all minus Maeve and I would spell Fiona like this.  I voted for Nora.  GL!  I love Irish names (obviously!).  GL!

  • It would be Maeve Marielle.... which sounds MUCH better than Maeve Mary (I would never do that to my child.)

One of my best friends, who lives in Ireland, is named Carina so I always associate it being Irish. I think it's such a pretty name.  It's Latin for "beloved."

  • I like them all but Fiona (with one N) is my favorite of your choices. Very pretty.

  • I almost voted for Carina, but then realized it's a body part and I can't get past it now.  Maybe if it was Karina, I'd like it more.  I ended up voting for Nora.

  • Fiona Marielle.
  • I like Maeve the most, but I don't like it paired with an M middle name. I think all your choices are great. I voted for Carina because I never see it. It's refreshing.
  • I vote Carina Mary. This name is so sweet.

  • I like Maeve the most but I don't like the double M's that much. Although, I don't hate Maeve Mariella. Alliteration just isn't my thing.

I voted Nora. Followed by Marielle. Sounds pretty to me.

  • I like Fiona and Nora.

It's FIONA by the way, I am actually from Ireland so if you are going for the true spelling of it, there is only one "n". If you spell it FIONNA well that is just like adding a to the end of the male version, which doesn't make sense because the male and female names are pronounced differently.

Technically it also would have a "fada" over the i. Think of the pronounciation - fee-oh-na (the ee sound comes for i with fada). Whereas the male "fionn" has no fada, it is not pronounced with the eee sound. more like f-yun. If that makes sense.

  • My husband is from Ireland as well so I know there is a fada, however, I would most likely not have one.
