Parenting after a Loss

Did you bring your LO to PP appt.?

I have my 6 week PP appt. tomorrow and I just started thinking about what I'm going to do with DS.  DH could be with him, but am I supposed to bring him along?  I could check with them tomorrow, but did you bring your LO?

Re: Did you bring your LO to PP appt.?

  • DH could have kept her, but I brought her with me. My OB was really happy to see her and wanted to hold her for a few (while I got changed). FWIW I went to a very small practice at the end.

  • DH and DD came along :)  I didn't get an exam though, but not that that would have mattered.  DH came to all my OB appts when pg.  I brought DD b/c all the ladies wanted to see her :)  And I brought DH so if she got cranky, he could calm her down.

  • The first appointment she was still in NICU, so obviously no.
The 2nd one, she stayed with my mom, but the OB and nurses were bummed that I didnt bring her.

  • I brought DS, mostly because I had no one else to watch him. It was fine, he slept in the stroller the whole visit. My OB and his nurse loved seeing him.

  • Yep. I brought DS to my 6wk pp.  I've taken him to every appt. I've had since.

  • Yes. DS came with me to the 6 week PP appointment.  I nursed him while the doctor talked to me about birth control, exercise, etc, and kept him in the car seat when she did the exam. No problems!

  • Yes, and it was terrible. But I had a very high needs baby who would not be put down for the first 8 weeks of his life. I had no choice, though, because I had no one to watch him. He screamed at the top of his lungs during my exam.

  • No, and my doctor said, "You didn't bring the baby?!?!"  I had to have a follow-up visit a week later, and this time, I brought the baby and DH.  I didn't want to go alone with the baby in case he started screaming during my appointment, so we brought the baby in so my doctor could see him and then DH and DS waited for me in the waiting room.

  • I took DD with me. I see a lot of women in my OB office do this. I think the nurses love seeing the baby. I also know a lot of women aren't able to leave the baby anywhere else. I don't think it is a big deal. This is the age where they can hang out and no one knows they are there. I wouldn't be able to take DD now...

  • I did - partially b/c DH was at work, and I didn't have a sitter, but also b/c I thought my midwife and nurses would want to see her. They were delighted, and I let them hold her.

  • Mine is on Tuesday and I plan on bringing her. I am too scared to leave her with anyone at this point because she has to eat so frequently and unpredictably that if I'm not there a meltdown is pretty much guaranteed. I may ask my mom to come to help since DH is out of town.

  • I didn't because my mom wanted to keep her which was fine with me.  I had already taken her to 2 other appts (one to remove my staples, and other to check the incision) and she was no problem at all.  Everyone love seeing her.
