Are your kids sports fans?

Not necessarily just playing sports, but watching games/going to sporting events? My kid is now OBSESSED with football. (H is as well, so he gets it honest.). He woke up this morning and rewatched our alma mater's game this morning with H. He can name any NFL team from their logo, he can recognize a lot of the NCAA teams as well. He also idolizes two of our school's players.

I think it's adorable. Anyone else?

  • My first thought was, sure, it's adorable until their idol is a part of the next penis photo sending, dog fighting promoting, or rape scandal.  IDK, I guess that could be true of any real life "heros" whether in sports, politics, or their favorite teacher, sadly.

I think it's great to have a hobby but we're not huge sports fans around here.  They like to play sports, but we only watch or attend games a couple times a year.  They're still learning all the team names.

  • DS loves all of the St. Louis teams, but especially the Cardinals. This year was so much fun, and he was so into the World Series. I love that he was old enough to get it and will be able to remember it.

Sweet lord you're a bundle of fun today.

  • PMQ, you are so right.  And I know he will blame it on that Sprite he had to drink when he was 5.

  • DD certainly knows we are Ohio State, Green Bay, Yankees fans.

She also knows to hate UM, Notre Dame, and Minnesota

    I love it!!

  • My Owen lives, eats and breathes football. He knows every player, position, stat out there- for all teams. He is now becoming a hockey fan- I love it.

  • C loves football. He can name every team/logo and tell you who is playing, when they're playing and what channel the game will be on.

  • Ds passionately HATES football. He doesn't seem to be too interested in watching sports at all for the most part, thank goodness. Just not my thing and I'm glad it's not his thing either. Dh's lack of interest in sports is one of the things that attracted me to him when we first started dating.

Dd is too little to care one way or the other. I suspect she'd also be bored by watching sports too but she'd LOVE the cheerleaders.

  • DS loves to play all types of sports and enjoys watching baseball, tennis and a little football on tv. He likes the yankees and giants, like his mom :)

  • DS is a huge sports fan, as is DH.  He can name the entire roster for the Tigers.  It helps that he plays xbox (for shame!) baseball, so he's had the opportunity to associate names and numbers.  He played Tball this year and that helped him to learn the rules of the game. or maybe that was the xbox too.

He likes football by default, but not nearly as much as he likes baseball.  He knows he's a Lions/UM fan and a few of the names.

You'd think he would like hockey more given he's half canadian, but since we don't watch it much, neither does he.

Eh, maybe just a little bored.

  • My kids all LOVE baseball! J is also an athlete and does football, wrestling, baseball and swim team, I'm hoping that A and N are athletic as well.

  • Nope, not really at all and he doesn't care much for playing sports either. He is much more into science, music, computers and outdoor camping and nature type stuff. I am sure he will like sports more as he gets older, we live in a pretty big sports town with professional teams, but if not, that is a-ok too!
