If it wasn't for SAIF I never would have heard of the words- Smocking, Shortalls (???), Longalls, and Bubbles.
What the heck? I just know- pants (jeans, cotton, khakis), shirts (t's, button down, polo), jumpers (Ava has a few), rompers (Nicholas wore them his first 2 summers til he turned 18 months) and dresses.
Re: Okay now I know what Smocking is. what the heck is a "longall"?

Ha ha... Same here, really.
But I just bought this "longall"

Then think of longalls as jumpers for boys. Or sleeveless rompers.
OR, as "dressy" overalls - lol. They're basically just sleeveless one-piece outfits for boys, typically worn with a shirt underneath.
Shortalls are just short versions of that. I often refer to shortalls as "jon jons." (Heck, or I consider them "rompers" too, to be honest.) Anyway, I put DS in jon jons all the time last summer, usually with no shirt, so his fat little arms stuck out
While we had a few "nice" ones, most were casual and we put them on him to be cool and comfy during the humid summer months. Think of them as the boy version of sleeveless sundresses.
Let's see, what else. . . ? Oh, yeah, bubbles. Bubbles can be for boys or girls, but are more often seen on baby girls. DS worn one for his baptism, and I've seen baby boys wear them for Easter, but otherwise they're not very common - but oh, so sweet! (IMO.) Picture a full romper, with elastic around the legs that's tight enough so that it fits snug on fat little baby thighs
The fabric then poufs or "bubbles" out so that it's full-looking. . . if that makes any sense!
HTH!
ETA: None of those things *have* to be dressy or expensive, IMO, just fyi. I definitely don't spend a fortune on the kids' clothes and, like I said, DS lived in jon jons last summer! Some were Carters' brand, believe it or not, some were from consignment sales, etc.
Thanks!

This is a jumper: https://www.carters.com/null/Layered-Look-Jumpsuit/664454992443,default,pd.html?cgid=carters-baby-girl-one-pieces
It says Jumpsuit, but I call it a Jumper.
That's funny- I grew up with "jumpers" being sleeveless dresses that you wear shirts under! (And I'd call that link a romper
).
Yeah, I'd call the link a romper too. And I'd never heard of a jumper before, period.

I went sale shopping yesterday. I bought DS some Carter's knit outfits for $12 each. And I bought him some longalls online for $12.50 each!
Everything (knit outfits and longalls alike) I bought because I like the way they look and seem comfy. Not at all to impress anyone or because they were pricey. Just sayin'
So many times this type of clothing (longalls, smoked dresses, whatever) is dubbed "expensive", but, depending on where you buy it, it isn't any more than Gap Kids, or Janie and Jack, or Gymboree!
(eta Hope you don't think I'm picking on you, LucyP! This sentiment is all over, I just thought I'd respond here.)
No it's fine! I just wouldn't know either way - if someone dropped 8 bucks or 80 bucks!

I almost bought that yesterday
