Transition 2 naps to 1

Just curious what the average age is for our board.  Some days they fight 2 naps and other days they clearly need both.  We're just going with the flow since we have a nanny and no strict daycare schedule.

I think they'll transition soonish.....but I will be happy if we can make it another month or more.

They turn 16 months in a few days.

Re: Transition 2 naps to 1

  • Mine went to one nap at 11 months.  If it makes you feel better, it made our days easier only having to plan around one nap time instead of two.
  • Our girls are 13 1/2 months and they only get one nap at daycare (the room they are in has a schedule, with only one long afternoon nap).  At home, however, we still do two naps.  There have been some days where they fight one of their naps, but for the most part, they still do fine with two.  I'm dreading when they go down to 1 because we need the breaks!  They are usually so tired by the time they get to the weekend... I think they make up for it with the 2 naps vs. the one they get every day at daycare.

  • Mine didn't transition to 1 nap until a week before they turned 18 months.  I had tried to switch earlier, but they were really struggling with only one nap.  So I just waited until they were ready to give up that morning nap.

  • We still need it. I thought by now we'd be weaning off. I feel it's coming soon but we still get two naps 1.5 hours plus so I guess I'll wait!
  • We just transitioned to one nap at 17 months old (2 weeks ago).  They were doing great on 2 naps for the most part.  Their naps kept getting pushed back later and later.  By the time we started the transition they were napping at 10:30 and 3.   Right at 17 months old, Z started boycotting his afternoon nap for a couple days in a row so that is how we decided to make the switch.   It really wasn't that hard to keep them up until 12:30 or so.  The problem is they would still only sleep for an hour.  But after a week the nap started getting longer and now they usually sleep from 1 to 3.

  • My guys are 13.5 months. Depends on the day. Most days they wake up at 7-730am and nap 12-3. Bedtime 730-8pm.  If we're not out and about in the mornings though, they'll take 2 naps.

  • Mine started fighting their 2nd nap at 14 mos. and I thought it would be much later, I tried to fight it, but it was a losing battle!  They still take their morning nap early (btwn 10:15-10:30), but generally sleep 2.5-3 hrs. and are OK making it to bedtime, which around 7:15 and sleep until 7:00-ish.

  • I'm a SAHM mom and was in no rush.  Mine transitioned around 17 months old.

  • I think it was 15/16 months.  I never remember anything.

I dreaded moving to one nap.  I LOVE it.  Once they fought that second nap for a few weeks I finally made the call to switch to one.

  • We went to one nap at 12 mos; the morning nap was getting shorter and shorter, so we just skipped it one day.

Now they're up from 6:30 am - 11am, and then sleep for 2 or 2.5 hours. I LOVE the one nap schedule :)

They also go to bed super early (6pm) and usually sleep 12-13 hours solid.

  • Ours started only taking one nap around 17 months.  They would take a morning nap with no problem and then just play in their crib in the afternoon. So we slowly started keeping them up longer and just giving them 1 afternoon nap.
