at 10 weeks my ob/gyn said that my uterus is measuring large...wants me to get an ultrasound, but my insurance does not cover it. She didn't say that she is thinking of a problem, but due to my age (40 omg) she mentioned fibroids....but have never had them before...anyone dealing with this? Could it be multiple, have a history of twins/triplets in my family...
Re: Large Uterus
Why won't your insurance cover an ultrasound? If your doctor deems it medically necessary it should be covered.
If they won't cover it at all, I would probably see what it would cost out of pocket and see if you could work out a deal to get one done. Even if it is just for peace of mind.
If it is medically necessary and not a cosmetic issue, I would also think that your insurance would cover it.
Some reasons why your uterus might measure larger includes multiples (mine measured about 2-3 weeks larger than gestation throughout 1st and 2nd trimesters, and then jumped to measuring 4 weeks ahead of time for the last trimester), fibroids, a distended uterus from having numerous FT pregnancies, or a number of other things. Knowing your familial history and pregnancy history would help your caregiver know better than us.
Another option, if you have to pay for it out of pocket, there is an ultra-stenographer who does ultrasounds for the HB community who is very reasonable. Let me know if you would like her information if you have to pay out of pocket.
Good luck.
