Parenting after a Loss

~*~October '11 Check In~*~

Its a couple days late this week, Turkey Day being on Thursday and then having my in-laws drag me to the zoo yesterday are good like thatConfused  Figured no biggie though since the rest of you are likely busy as well.

I think I'm gonna skip the list this week, if anyone happens to be reading that never updated us on birthdates or names wants to let me know though...I'd love to hear.

How are you all doing this week?

For those in the US, how did babies first Thanksgiving go?

Milestones?

Appts?

Any holiday traditions you're looking forward to sharing/starting with your LO?

Lets see those pictures of your little turkey(s)!

Re: ~*~October '11 Check In~*~

  • How are you all doing this week? I'm doing much better now that my ILs are on their way back homeWink.  Love them, but they are so out of touch with how life with an infant is that its not funny.

For those in the US, how did babies first Thanksgiving go? Pretty good.  FIL cooked Thanksgiving at our house (my negotiation with them coming here for the holiday was an understanding that I would NOT be cooking the meal).  This all sounded great until I remembered that FIL cooks ridiculous amounts of food...like enough for 14 instead of 4.  We have about 12 lbs of squash and 5 lbs of boiled onions in the fridge...and I don't eat either.  Oh well, at least I saved some of the squash in the freezer for baby food later on...

Baby did great on Turkey Day.  Slept thru the meal so I got to eat with two hands and everything!

Milestones? First Thanksgiving.  First trip to the zoo (ILs insisted we go...long vent if I get started).  He cooed at the Twilight Turtle for the first time this past week, too.

Appts? Nothing this week.  His 2 month appt and shots are Dec 1st.

Any holiday traditions you're looking forward to sharing/starting with your LO? I want to do the PJs on Xmas eve and a new ornament each year (signifying something that happened in his life).  Once he's old enough to remember Xmas morning, I'd like for him to wake up in our home...this year though it will be the East Coast Tour de Grandparents.

Lets see those pictures of your little turkey(s)!

This outfit had the same turkey on the butt of a brown pair of pants that said 'gobble gobble' on the feet.  Loved it.

  • Hi Ladies.  This is a P&R as DH is wrangling G and he thinks I am doing a work email right now.  Shhh.  Don't tell.

Suffice it to say not much has changed...I'm exhausted, BF is still a challenge, colic and reflux are kicking my ass, G hates the Zantac flavor the doctor requested so getting it down him twice a day sucks almost as bad as the reflux, and the eczema looks so uncomfortable for the poor little man.

As for me, I feel like a spit-up covered shadow of my former self.  All in all, the usual good times.  And my friends wonder why I am "holed up in the house"?  Umm...okay.  Let's put this in perspective -- I am afraid to go to the local new mom's group because LO will more than likely scream the entire time.  It took a good day or two to recover from the trip to the LC.  Where the heck else could I go?

Thanksgiving was first okay and then scary.  We (or more correctly, DH and my Mom) hosted, and LO slept almost the entire day but for feedings in one pair of arms or another...and then he slept so soundly in the late evening that we could barely rouse him.  Seriously.  I mean flicking the heels, rubbing the chest, stripping nekkid, cool washcloth on the body, the whole deal.  Just out of it.  Scared the living sh*t out of me.  He went almost 8 hours without eating and I was a panicked wreck...and then he just woke up like it was no big deal at 2 a.m.  Never had a fever, etc., but I was about to take him to the ER literaly minutes before he woke up.  Not good for Mommy's nerves.

No real milestones.  He occasionally smiles but not at me or anyone in particular.  I'm starting to worry that the GI issues are impacting his development, as he's rarely quiet awake so we can't do much tummy time, etc. and he won't tolerate the bouncy seat or swing (or a carrier, or...well, pretty much anything other than being held and bounced).

We will be heading to the pedi this week for the 2 month appt and a discussion about his issues.  I just don't know what else to do.

Can't really wrap my head around any holiday traditions.  I am just hoping to get through the holidays in one piece at this point.

I am on my laptop for a change and finally uploaded a pic.  I spared you the photos of him crying.  We have a lot of those.  Tongue Tied

  • How are you all doing this week? Still tired, but hanging in there

For those in the US, how did babies first Thanksgiving go? She was really good for the first 3/4 of it. I had her in my arms and ate with one hand (I'm getting to be a pro at doing everything with one arm!), but started crying before dessert hit. We didn't end up putting her to bed til 4 hours after she woke from her nap!

However, she slept for 5 hours (10-3)!! I, on the other hand, did not. I am so used to getting up every 2 hours that I was up at midnight, 1, 2 and 3am. She made up for it last night by going back to every two hours after two hours of trying to put her to bed.

Milestones? 7 weeks on Thanksgiving day.

Appts? Dec 6 for two month shots.  =

Any holiday traditions you're looking forward to sharing/starting with your LO? Just trying to make it through the holiday season without too many meltdowns at this point. Maybe traditions next year.

Lets see those pictures of your little turkey(s)! Pics are on DH's phone.  =

  • How are you all doing this week?

Doing good!! my milk supply has increased since DS has been eating a lot, which i am happy about.

For those in the US, how did babies first Thanksgiving go?  It was pretty good, we were able to get ds to nap briefly for few minutes while we ate. He didn't nap for long, so he was cranky in evening.

    Milestones?

Appts? 2 month app next week. I cannot believe he will be 2 months soon,

Any holiday traditions you're looking forward to sharing/starting with your LO?  Still thinking about this.  I will definetly buy him a ornament every year.

  • How are you all doing this week?  Doing alright.  Still dealing with my open incision.  Feeling the need to get out of the house.  Hopefully my doctor will give me the ok to start lifting DS in his car seat soon, then we will be able to go places.  Smile

For those in the US, how did babies first Thanksgiving go? Ate and slept all day......just like everybody else.

Milestones?  Hopefully will be cleared to do more next week.  That would be a big milestone for me.  No major milestones for DS this week.

Appts?  7 week PP appt. is this week.  I'm really nervous about it for some reason.

Any holiday traditions you're looking forward to sharing/starting with your LO?  Christmas eve with my whole family.

  • Hi ladies, sorry in advance for the typos and format, phone won't let me C&P or make paragraphs. Things were getting a bit netter but somehow it's like DD knows about the 6 week growth spurt and decided today-the day she turned 6 weeks-to get extra fussy and inconsolable again. Thanksgiving was good, I got to eat and she didn't start wailing until the short car ride home. MIL got some much needed quality time in with her so everyone was happy. Hope you are all doing good, sorry I don't post more, I never have a chance to sit at my computer so I generally just lurk from my phone. Miss you girls!
