Sick for almost 2 weeks, nurses not helping! WWYD

Hi ladies I've been sick with a bad cold for almost 2 weeks. The worst of it is a persistent cough that only comes at night. I cough severely to the point of gagging - it's dry at night and then in the morning I'm coughing up yellow and green thick mucus. I have called the nurse line and actually spoke with my NP a few times in the past couple weeks. They keep telling me the same things to take and I've tried it all - Robitussin DM, Tylenol or Tylenol PM, Neti-pot, humidifier, cough drops - Nothing even touches this bad boy. I could easily take the nasal issues but have not gotten a decent nights sleep in nearly 2 weeks. WWYD? I just tried the online virtuwell clinic - they will likely prescribe antibiotics but my NP was trying to stray away from that - thing is she is not available today and the nurse line at my clinic is worthless besides taking messages and stating the obvious. I am tired, frustrated, feel helpless and have BAD pain in my back and lower belly when I cough. WWYD?

  • If it were me I would go to an urgent care clinic and get checked out.  You could have a respiratory infection that would require antibiotics to treat.  Good luck!

  • I would go to urgent care. I had a bad cold 2 months ago that turned into walking pneumonia because the OB refused to treat it. You need to get well so you can have the energy to deliver that baby.

  • My experience with Urgent Care is that they wouldn't take me becuase I was pregnant and sent me to the ER.  My dr. ok'd mucinex for me which really helped with cough.

  • Either do Urgent Care or call your primary on Monday. I had one issue this pregnancy that my OB recommended I see my primary for because she would be more adept at handling it. So long as the primary is well aware you are pregnant he/she should be just as careful as an OB would be about what meds to prescribe and such but might be better at diagnosing if there is something additional going on besides just a cold, especially since you are having colored mucus.

  • For things non-pregnancy related, my OB has me see my primary or go to the ER. I just had a really bad sinus infection that led me to having a fever of 102. I went to the ER because it was a Saturday and they gave me antibiotics. They just call my OB's service to run by the meds they want to give.

  • I had a nasty cold that lasted 3 weeks, rest got me through it although I still get a bit congested at night. Not much u can do when pregnant, plus it can just be part of pregnancy

  • Have you tried any allergy meds?  The reason is because it's a specific time/event.  If you sleep with a humidifier does that change anything or not?

But absolutely, go to your primary or UC because yellow/green usually means infection...

This is exactly what I would do too.
