Bra experts

Remind me...when should I get fitted for nursing bras?  The ones I used with Luke aren't gonna cut it this time around.

Re: Bra experts

  • I made do with the nursing Tanks and a "sleep bra" with Emily until about 3-4 weeks post partum. I didn't want the band size to be too big and my rib cage got huge when I was pregnant. I also didn't want the cup size to be too large with my milk having just come in.

I did get my 2 Bravado tanks at PF while PG and they used my pre-preg sizes and looked up my nursing bra size with Abby to figure out what I needed.

To me, getting fitted for a nursing bra while pregnant would be like shopping for jeans when you plan to lose 35 lbs ;)

  • Have you seen me IRL? Nursing tanks won't provide the support my girls need. Stick out tongue Last time I was fitted while I was still PG and it was fine. I just can't remember how close to my due date I went in for the fitting.

Have you tried the Bravado ones? I had ginormous H cups while nursing and they were better than most nursing bras. They actually have molded and shaped bras inside, rather than the usual shelf bra. My boobs laughed at all other nursing tanks. :-/

Especially in the beginning thy would be ideal because there is give in the fit so they'll still fit you after you stabilize, but give support when you're fresh milky.

Other than the Bravado tanks, I don't recommend anything pre-delivery other than sleep bras (which give even less support). Anything else that actually supports will not fit properly after your ribcage goes back down and your milk production stabilizes. I'd wait until a week or more PP.

  • I went and got nursing tanks from Special Addition while I was still pregnant, but the lady there told me to come back 10 to 14 days after I had Ruby to get fitted for nursing bras. The tanks were fine, but I think it really would have made a difference with the bras, as I was so much bigger after having her.

  • Two weeks before your due date, but if you have something that will get you by, you can wait until after the baby comes.  And yes, the Bravado tanks are the shiz. They won't be as good as a bra for you, but they are worth trying.
