It irks me when people say telling your child about Santa is lying to them.  Don't tell your kid about Santa if you want to deprive them of that joy, but don't call me a liar.  I grew up believing in Santa and never did I get mad at my parents or think they had been lying to me when I found out he was not real.  I think there's a wide gap between fantasy and a pattern of deceit.

Life without Santa and the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny sounds boring.

my husband's best friend's wife (still follow me) read me the riot act for allowing my children to believe in Santa.  She said she couldn't imagine lying to her children and is still mad her parents lied to her about it.  Umm... issues!!!

I burst into tears and was pretty devastated when my dad fessed up about Santa. Even though I had suspected for a while, hearing it confirmed was still heartbreaking. I don't feel like my parents were liars, but I'm still on the fence about whether we'll do it because of that experience. Plus DH didn't grow up with Santa, so he's not really for it, either.

I think people need to realize that there are lots of things they will lie to their kids about over the years.

Kids believe in magic and that's a beautiful thing.   Why try to turn them into little adults so soon?

DH told me that he's against telling LO about Santa because it's lying to the child for no good reason and that he never believed because his older sister told him there was no Santa when he was really young and it never bothered him.  I believe in a lot of things that you can't see physically, so I have no problem having a child believe in Santa.  It's fun and I see it as a right of passage in a way, something you believe in as a child and learn about as you grow up.  The problem we have is that neither of us has a convincing argument or reason for our point of view.  We're going to have Santa in our house, btw.  DH says he argues poorly so he defers to me unless he thinks it's something dangerous.
