I know a lot of people took Thanksgiving as a "free pass" day so you may not even know numbers. I just wanted to check in and see how everything was. What was hard? Was it easier than you thought?
I don't usually take insulin at dinner (lunch and fasting only) but I did take 4 units before dinner last night. I piled on the turkey and had a bit of everything, including stuffing, sweet potatoes (with brown sugar...) and even a couple bites of regular mashed potatoes. And I had a couple rolls ![]()
I really limited my portions though and only had seconds (for carbs) on the stuffing. Pleasantly surprised to have only scored 113 and hour later so I did allow myself a slice of pumpkin pie.
The hardest part for me was being the only one without a glass of wine! Ha!
Now to get through Christmas with all the fudge... toffee... hot apple cider.... ugh.
Re: GD Mamas - how did Thanksgiving go for you?
Sounds about like me...
I was in charge of appetizers, so I made pretty much all low- carb apps (cheese dip with veggies, devilled eggs, olives, etc.) so I got to pig out all afternoon without feeling too guilty.
For dinner, I had lots of turkey and green bean casserole and a small bit of all the "good" stuff (even a tiny bit of candied yams!). My after dinner number was only 103! So, I indulged and had a bit of pumpkin pie with whipped cream and a low-carb mini cheesecake that I made. My fasting number wasn't great this AM (99), which I'm sure was the pie, but all things considered I was totally stuffed and my numbers were pretty good.
Not so bad. I had turkey, mashed potatoes w/gravy, corn, stuffing, mac n cheese, a roll...I think that's it, and got a 142 an hour after. So only +2 points! After a couple hours I had a very tiny piece of chocolate cake.
I don't know what was going on that day though because that night I was EXTREMELY hungry and DH brought me a cuban and a bag of chips from 7-11 and I tested an hour later and only had a 102 or something crazy like that!
I had turkey, gravy, salad, green beans, creamed spinach, a taste of mashed potatoes, and stuffing.... my number was only 116.
I had a piece of pumpkin cheese cake for dessert... did not effect my fasting number at all. I swore that was it for me, but the next day at lunch I had a couple tiny bites of leftover cheese cake and again, my sugar was great. I did the same at dinner, but had a very small piece. My sugar was still good. It feels too good to be true, so I will stop... but can't wait to ask my nutritionist if this means i can be adding carbs to lunch and dinner (even though I not have to be extremely strict with breakfast).
We took my grandma and one uncle out to eat, so I honestly have no clue what the amount of carbs I had. We had a sit down dinner and I had the turkey, filling, potatoes, with mixed vegetables. Our appetizer was salad with raspberry vinagrette (I asked to sub but they wouldn't). Low and behold, my number was 95. I decided to eat most of everything on my plate (I could not finish the turkey). I also had a roll and some of DS's french fries. We got dessert to go. I had white cake with white frosting. I decided to eat that as my "dinner" and my number was 109.
I once had a picture until the trolls showed up.
