High-Risk Pregnancy

Lovenox and induction

I am on Lovenox for dvt that was found at about 9 weeks (I'm now 25 weeks).  I know it's a little ways away but it seems like this pregnancy is going by so fast.  I have heard that if you are on Lovenox they want to induce you.  Anyone on Lovenox before know if this is true?  If so, at how many weeks do they normally do it?  Thanks ladies!

Re: Lovenox and induction

  • I was switched from Lovenox to Heparin at 36 weeks. I was induced at 39 weeks.

  • Yes, this was done with me.  I was pulled off of Lovenox at 39 weeks, induced (didn't work), sent home and brought back at 40 weeks.  I went back on Lovenox in between.  The second induction worked and DD was born at 40 weeks 3 days.  I also had an epidural which was a lifesaver...they had to run some bloodwork beforehand to make sure I was clotting appropriately, but it only took about a half hour to get the results.  Keep that option open for yourself if you're going to get induced.

  • I'm on Lovenox for clotting factors. I asked my Dr the same question and he said not necessarily. They're going to switch me to heparin at 32 weeks (shorter half-life, so twice a day injections) I'll be monitored weekly at that point though, and if they have to induce me early they will, but he wants to let me go naturally if I can. He just said that if I have the hint of labor, I'm NOT to take my next injection. The anti-coagulants can cause issues with epidurals, which is some of the reason they sometimes induce. I hope I can go on my own!

  • I went off lovenox 24 hours before my c/s.  DD was breech, so I knew ahead of time that I would have my c/s.  My hemotologist said you really only need 12 hours in between your last dose and delivery, but 24 hours is preferable.
