When your child was teething

for how long did the fussy period last, if there was any? DS has been drooling and chewing on things since he was 2.5 months old, but he was never fussy or seemed to be annoyed. For the last two days, however, he has been unusually fussy and seems very uncomfortable. It is already exhausting. The only thing that still makes him smile is his buddy in the mirror.

I honestly hope this doesn't last with months.

Re: When your child was teething

  • I can't answer specifically because there are days I think our LO is teething and then nothing.  A friend of mine said her LO drooled from 4 months on and is just now getting his first tooth and he's 9 months old.  I know you didn't want to hear that. Sorry!

  • DS was drooling early on too and everyone said, "He must be teething!"  But we didn't see evidence of the first tooth until 10 months.  I don't think he was particularly fussy, but we had some nights where he'd cry in his sleep, and even wake up screaming which was totally unusal behavior.  When I asked the pedi, he said it was due to teething...even though we didn't see a tooth breaking the skin, his gums were swollen and painful.  Have you tried the usual suggestions: frozen washcloth, frozen mini-bagels, etc.?  Those might help.  I think once teething begins, you're in for the long haul!

  • I feel terrible that i cant really remember! and it was only 2 years ago.

i remember that not much helped except I would occasionally give him a little baby panadol or nurofen (anti inflammatory) at night for the pain. Im from australia so the brand names probably mean nothing to you sorry.

He got his first tooth at 5 months and I remember him being miserable on his first birthday also :(

Its so hard on you both. they can never get enough cuddles. Hope the pesky teeth come through soon xx

  • That is right, ladies. That is exactly what I did not want to hear. But I  kind a knew what I will hear I guess. Anyways, thanks for your feedback and for your suggestions. The situation is not that terrible now, but if it gets there I will also look for pills.

  • we are in the "buckets of drool" and "I MUST chew on that right now" stafe but still no fussy...yet.  I know there are natural remedies (Hylands? I think?)

  • LO has 7 teeth with another one coming in. We were lucky, no fussiness due to teething period with her. We had tons of drool & LO would chew on whatever she could get her hands on. Sophie was good for a while, then she sent more for the plastic rings. It seemed like she needed hard things to chew on.

Sorry, I really wasn't much help.

  • I tried homeopathic remedies and honestly dont think they did anything - IMO

  • My LO has 9 or 10 teeth at this point....He does drool excessively and chews on everything! The major difference that I see when he is teething is that he gets fussier than normal and sleeps more. I have found these homeopathic teething drops by Gentle Naturals.....they seem to help balance out his moods when teething - I think that means he gets some relief!  I found them at Rite-Aid, but they can be found online as well. My son would never take the tablets - he would spit them out as soon as I got them in his mouth.

  • sleeps more???  Bring on the Teeth?!  (I'm still up 4-6 times a night - reverse cycling boogerhead)

  • LO has had teething fussy periods on and off for the past 2 years! He still doesn't have his last set of molars, but they're coming in now, and they hurt the most :(
