Re-admitted and sleeping with reflux question

Hello moms,

DD was re-admitted on Wednesday after she stopped breathing at home after a diaper change. It was the most terrifying thing I have ever experienced. She was discharged after a day and a half and they think it was caused by combination of reflux and congestion. What do you do for your reflux striken babies to sleep? Any particular products you recomend to prop them up?

Re: Re-admitted and sleeping with reflux question

  • Boppy makes a double/2piece wedge for the boppy pillow. We took one end out and put it under the bassinet mattress and we use the other piece (in the cover) at the changing table. I think I got it for abot $20. If you don't mind spending a little $ there is this thing called the Tucker sling or wedge...I googled and found the site. The sling with wedge was about $75 I think. Is your DD on an apnea monitor? DS had some episodes that the monitor went off for,but he didn't have to go to the hospital. I can imagine that was scary though!

Thank you! No, no monitor but I really wish she was.

  • Hello, I was in your boat! DS was discharged after 50 days then came home and bradyed his butt off for two weeks before he was readmitted. He was having an average of 15 bradys/day with half needing stim and a few changing color. He'd been the same way in NICU and they kept telling me "he'll grow out of it" so I just thought that's how it was supposed to be - we were sent home on the monitor, though. He was readmitted for eight days - after that he was "better" - he'd only have a few/day and we just had to grow out of it...and, he did! Sorry that isn't much help. We wound up sleeping together sitting up in bed - it was the best thing for us as a family. I had reflux - he had reflux. I slept light as a bird and we'd get though the night all right. I wound up getting a hot water bottle which I'd put on his belly when it got really rough - he'd scream in pain - it was horrible. He's on two meds now and it's returned to silent reflux but he appears to be growing out of it FINALLY. His pedi is hoping the two med doses will last him until he's one then she'll take him off. Please let me know if you need to talk - PM me, add on FB, whatever - it's scary, I know!!!!
  • The FP Rock and Sleep always worked well for ds and his reflux.

For peace of mind, you could look into a snuza. It is a monitor that clips on a diaper and monitors breathing. It was worth every penny to me.
