So my LO has a cold. The pedi. said I could give him an ounce of pedialyte between feedings. Has anyone else done this before? she says it dries up the mucous. Should I expect his stools to be different if he does get pedialyte?
Why would you give him pedialyte for a cold? It's an electrolyte replacement/oral rehydration solution, you might consider it if he has prolonged vomiting or diarrhea, but I don't know why you would give it for a cold. I've never heard anything about pedialyte and mucus.
I cannot for the life of me figure out how Pedialyte would "dry up mucus". Unless she is talking about it helping to rinse it down since milk is a phlegm producer. I don't see the point of this. Just let it run its course. Use saline in the nose and suction it out. Use a humidifier to keep the passages moist and use vicks if that all doesn't work.
