Hello, so firsst off let me say me and dh own a farm and ranch and want a unique name that fits our personality. DH REALLY loves the name Pepper for a boy, but im not sold on it yet. I really do think it is a cute name, i would think it was more for a girl though. I do know of three boys with the name Pepper as well My main issue is all the teasing that would come with the name. Then again, you can make fun of about any name. Any thoughts on this name? Would i be cruel to name my child this? TIA!

I like Pepper for fictional characters in books and movies. I think there was one in Annie and Iron Man 1 and 2. Not sure I see it IRL. If I did it would be for a girl.

I've seen it before for a dog.  I've also seen it as a spice.  I have not seen it as a child's name.  I feel like it would be hard for a grown man to use. 

Yes, there seems to be a way that most names can be twisted for making-fun purposes.  However, Pepper doesn't need a lot of creativity.  It's pretty open for teasing.  JMO.

While I do think it's a cute name (or perhaps, nn)...it's all girl to me. Can't see a boy pulling off the name.

Pepper is fine for a NN, not a proper name. Its pretty terrible.

I actually love the name Pepper! I have 2 favorite names (1 boy, 1 girl) on a sort of 'fantasy' name list (like if I didn't care what people thought, or if i was a celebrity and could get away with it sort of thing), and Pepper is my top name for a GIRL. I wouldn't use it on a boy.

Pepper is the name of a rarely-seen character on Modern Family (a male). I think you would have to have his personality to pull of the name-- he's very fashionable and flamboyant. I don't think it works for everyone.

I know a girl named Pepper (age 33), and it definitely fits her.  However, I'm just not sure it would fit just anyone or age very well on most people.

Like some PPs I think of Pepper as a girl's name.  I think there might have been a doll from the 60s called Pepper (a girl) which maybe is why.  (Pretty sure there was an old one of these dolls lying around my grandma's house growing up -- I'm old but not that old, LOL.)

I don't mind Pepper for a girl, but I dislike it for a boy. I went to elementary and junior high school with a girl named Pepper. She was cute and smart, and the name seemed to fit her just fine. I don't remember her ever being teased about it.

Pepper screams GIRL to me, is cute (mostly for a nn) but I'd never ever use it for a boy

As a child of the 80's I think of Annie, I am pretty sure Pepper was one of the orphans and I think girl.

My friend's husband is from a farming family and hiss name is Field. It actually is a cool name, perhaps one to consider.

I have a friend that named her daughter Pepper...it's "eh" for a girl to me but an "absolutely not unless you want him to get beat up at school" for a boy.

Like PPs, not a fan of Pepper for a boy. It would be cute for him as a little kid but really can't see it working as a teen or grown man (much mocking I'm sure). If your husband is really really set on it, you could come up with a first name sounding middle name to go with (eg Pepper James..), so if when your DS gets older he can't stand "Pepper" he could go by the middle name instead? But I guess that would kind of defeat the purpose of naming him that...

Does your DH have a list of alternatives?

Pepper is a girls' name and when I hear it, I immediately think of Pepper Potts from Ironman, although Pepper isn't her real fn or even her mn. Her real name is Virginia and Pepper is her nn b/c of her hair.

 I never comment on here, but I thought I would this time.  I think Pepper is cute for a boy, even though I don't have the guts to use it.  It reminds me of the movie Cowboy Way, and Woody Harleson was so cute as Pepper.

If he likes the name Pepper and it fits as an affectionate NN, go for it, but at least give your future adult a name he can be taken seriously with

We had a dog named Pepper. It was a girl dog.

I think it is a really girly sounding name. Don't do that to your son. Please.
