So confused

Last night I went to Labor and Delivery because I thought I might be leaking amniotic fluid. I'm not, but while I was there the nurse checked me and said that I was only 2 cm dilated, My Dr said on Monday that I was 4cm. Has anyone else had this happen?

I hasn't happened to me, but it is possible for dilation to regress.

It could also be that the Dr and nurse measure differently.

Really?? I didn't know that it was even possible to have dilation regress. Well hopefully that's not what is happening I guess I will find out next week at my appointment. Thank you

I would say that chances are it was just from a difference of opinion of the nurse and dr. When they check for dilation its only by using fingers to measure the distance so its really up for interpretation. I would go more by a dr. that has been consistently checking than a nurse who has only checked you once.

I didn't have a regression in dialation, but I did apparently have a regression in effacement.  When I went to L&D at 32.5 with my preterm labor scare, they said I was 3cm dialated and 80% effaced.  When I had my next check at 36 weeks, I was 3cm and 50% and at 37 weeks 3cm and 60-70%.  I wonder if it was just due to a different person checking too though.
