We are choosing not to have DD believe in Santa because we both remember feeling very angry and deceived by our parents when we found out Santa was not real. I don't want to lie to my kids. I just want to know how to have her keep the secret at school when the other kids believe because I would not want her to ruin it for other families.
I don't think this decision has anything to do with our level of belief in organized religion. (We were both raised going to church and I believe Jesus walked the earth but I don't take the Bible literally.) I have books about Santa and books about the Jesus Christmas story that I read to DD and when she asks me if Santa is real I will tell her no and if she asks if Jesus is real I will tell her yes.
