Whine/question re: vomit on a rug

Y'all, it's misery over here.  Day 3 of a terrible stomach bug in our house.  So far only my 4 year old has escaped. 

Yesterday my 1 year old projectile vomited all over my family room rug.  I cleaned it and scrubbed with soap and water twice yesterday.  Now I have baking soda sitting on it.  It still smells.  And all I want to do is sit on my couch and watch movies, but I can't because the smell sends me running.  

Any advice on getting the rug clean?  It's a high pile wool rug, if that matters.

I wonder if you will have to rent one of those machines.

My mom used to clean up cat vomit with seltzer water, but I don't know if that helps the smell.

We use our little green cleaning machine for that sort of thing :

I'd probably rent the rug doctor (or buy a little cleaner machine).
