Pseudoephedrine during first trimester???

Hi..I have been sick with a cold since the day after I found out I was pregnant.  I am almost 6 weeks and my cold is not getting any better.  I've been taking pseudoephedrine...but now I'm reading it may cause birth defects??? What have  your doctors told you aboout this??? I feel guilty taking anything..but I am miserable! ahhh..so hard to decide.

Crap now I just checked and realized it is phenylephrine that I've been taking for a day and a half! are there bad risks??

Stop taking it.  Pseudoephedrine is only safe during 2nd and 3rd trimesters.  All that is safe right now is pretty much Tylenol.  If you can get a saline nose spray or use a neti pot for your congestion, that will help a lot.

You can safely take Benadryl during the whole pregnancy. Feel better.

Oh my goodness - I swear by my neti pot!  Everyone I show it to thinks it's disgusting, but I've converted almost 10 people so far!  Try it.  It basically washes away your cold! Is it disgusting?  Yes!  Is it a little uncomfortable?  Yes!  But can you get instant relief?  Yes!!  )
