Timeable lower back pain?

Could this be contractions? It has been bad over the last 24 hrs...I have progressed quite a bit in the last week or 2 and today especially I have felt "more wet" then most days. I am afraid of going in for a pee leak and i've sniffed so much undies in the last 2 weeks I can't tell anymore. Ugh... This is so frustrating. Being a FTM not knowing

Re: Timeable lower back pain?

  • You definitely could be having back labor.  If it is timeable I'd get it checked out.

  • Both my labors started out as lower back pain that worked it's way around to my belly, my belly would tighten then release, then the about 5 or 7 minutes later it would start all over again. Drink water, lay on  your side for an hour, and if it remains the same or gets worse it could be the real thing!  p.s. I was confused by your "wetness" comments. Were you thinking it was amniotic fluid? If so, if it was in fact your water breaking in a slow leak you would need to have the baby within 24 hours!

The wetness, was definitely referring to leaking fluid, but it hasn't stayed consistent so I am just chalking it up to sweat or just "extra wet". It's just with these lower back pains, they had me thinking maybe I was leaking, but even if I "jump", it doesn't just leak out. And I couldn't distinctively say it didn't smell like pee :S But with all the talk of leaking fluid and having to have baby within 24 hours kind of freaked me out, like what if I just didn't know...Good to hear though, that your lower back pains turned into more "common contractions" and that it doesn't necessarily mean i'm going to have back labour! Of course though, since my pregnancy has been going really well that it'd be my luck. I'll be trying the water and laying down. And if it gets worse I will be going in later tonight

My sister's water broke and she didn't have my niece for 2 weeks.  Granted, she was 32 weeks when her water broke so it is a different situation.  However, just because your water breaks doesn't necessarily mean that your baby is in danger if it's not delivered in 24 hours.  Your body (if labor doesn't progress) usually continues to produce amniotic fluid to replenish what is leaking.  Of course, if your water breaks you should definitely be monitored within 24 hours...and if your water breaks this late in the game and labor doesn't progress then they will induce...so I am not saying this about your situation specifically.  Just wanted to dispel the myth of the 24 hour rule.

It's not a myth. Doctors will have you deliver within 24 hours of your water breaking because the babies sterile environment has been compromised (opens him/her to possible infection).

Pretty sure cutcopypaste's water broke a few weeks before she delivered, not 24 hours... maybe she can elaborate.

But I know I have heard of other girls whose water broke, and then they were hospitalized and put on antibiotics for a few weeks before delivering.
