Total Newbie!

Hi all -

I've been lurking on this board for a bit and wanted to come out and say hi.  My DH and I have just officially begun the adoption process - we filed our paperwork with our adoption attorney yesterday and are in the midst of getting our home study scheduled.  We are both very excited!

It's been a long journey for us - 5 1/2 years of trying, including 5 IVF's and 2 miscarriages.  We have friends on similar journeys that have gone on to try surrogates and donor eggs, but adoption feels like the right next step for us. 

We're planning to tell our parents about our decision today.  DH's parents live far away so we'll be telling them by phone, before going over to my parents' house for Thanksgiving Dinner.  We're a little nervous about it but hopeful that they'll share our enthusiasm and be supportive.

At any rate: I know from friends who have gone through the adoption process what a long and emotional journey it can be.   From what I've seen, this seems like an amazing community of people united in the same goal of becoming parents.  I look forward to getting to know you all and sharing our steps as we make our way forward.

I, too, want to know how it went with your parents.  I hope they were excited to hear the news, and will be your biggest supporters through the process!

It was FANTASTIC!   DH's parents who we told by phone were very emotional - his mom started crying which is very typical for her.      And then we told my parents at T-Day dinner and they were so excited, and my sister and BIL were thrilled!   They turned to their 3-yr-old and said, "this is great news, you're going to have a cousin" and she said, "Does she have any toys?"  HA!
