High-Risk Pregnancy

Stupid lovenox question

So, I'm hoping all you Lovenox ladies will help ease my fears. I've been on lovenox for about 2 months now. I'm just now starting to show, seriously it's like my baby appeared overnight. Now, that I'm showing I'm starting to get extremely freaked out about where I give my shot. I use to just give it in the front of my stomach but now I feel like I'm going to jab my baby with the damn needle! I know I sound crazy and maybe I am but what do you guys do? Is there anyway possible the needle would be able to reach the uterus? I have moved to my love handles on my sides because I'm so paranoid. It's just my bump feels so rock hard and I forgot to ask the Dr. about it, of course. Please, someone with lovenox experience, ease my mind...

Re: Stupid lovenox question

  • My first pregnancy with Lovenox I felt the same way even with my doctors telling me it was okay I couldn't hurt the baby.  They said the needle was not long enough.  The day I had my amnio all those fears went away.  The needle to get the fluid out of my uterus was so much bigger and longer that I knew the lovenox needle wouldn't be enough.  I do give my shots around my love handles just because when you get bigger you won't be able to do your front.  My doctor also told me you can give it in your thighs but you may want to check with yours.  Hopes that help.

  • You won't hurt baby!!!! The needle is not long enough. I still do mine in my abdomen but it's getting trickier because of a build up of scar tissue from both lovenox and my insulin pump. The love handles are good, too. Babies will actually move away from the needle if it's long enough, i.e. an amnio. When I had an amnioinfusion at 22 weeks, the needle insertion site was near baby's arm and MFM dr. said baby would move away from needle and he did. It was neat to see on the ultrasound.

  • I had this fear too for the longest time but then someone said don't you have to pinch to give yourself an injection?  There's nothing scientific about the explanation but I think it makes sense.  If you're pinching your skin you're creating a buffer zone between you and the baby anyway.
  • You can't hurt the baby.  Do your injections where they hurt the least.  The positioning will change as you continue your pregnancy.
