When did you start to gain weight?

I know this is somewhat a personal question but I am 15 weeks today and still haven't gained any weight. I am definitly getting a pooch but still no weight gain.

I am just curious to see if I am expecting myself to gain weight before I should. The Dr told me at our last appointment that it was good I hadn't gained any at that point but that I should start gaining soon. That was 2 weeks ago so I am not sure how soon, soon is! :)

Re: When did you start to gain weight?

  • I gained 10 lbs during our IVF cycles...so I started out a bit bigger than I had hoped. :(

So far, most of my weight gain came during the 6th month. I gained 8lbs in one month! YIKES!

  • I didn't really gain much until the 5th or 6th month. I started out gaining 2 lbs, then was down 4 from that amount at my 3 or 4 mo. appt. The baby just kind of "popped out" around 5 1/2-6 mo. mark.

On the other hand, I've heard friends say they had to be in maternity pants at 3 mos...so it definitely depends.

  • I had m/s until week 17. ?I gained 4 lbs by the time I was 20 weeks but then I went into the hospital for the flu and lost more than I started with. ?I really started to make up for it by week 24. ?That's when my obsession with donuts and milk started.

Everyone is different. ?My entire pregnancy I dealt with everyone telling me I was too small to be x weeks along. ?It was pretty annoying. ?If they said something like I was way too small I just looked them square in the eye and said, "My doctor says I'm measuring perfectly."?

  • Well I know I am a different story then the others, but I started gaining a few pounds here and there around 14 weeks. By the time I rolled around 24 weeks I had gained a good 20 pounds and know I am over the 30 pound mark. Luckly it is all belly and I am growing two little ones. As the others have said, each body is different, some will start to gain sooner but unless your doctor expresses concern I wouldnt worry about it. Before you know it you will have a big ole belly that bumps into everything!

I've been getting this a lot too. I remember a conversation with my grandma (who worries about everything) at about 5-6 months. I told her I'd gained 8 lbs & the books were saying the average was 10-15, and she started freaking out that I needed to gain those 2 extra pounds to get up to the average! It took about 5 minutes of reassuring her that the doc said I was fine until she was convinced I wasn't starving myself & the baby!

People are so strange with their comments to pregnant women, especially about size. It just really baffles me.
