High-Risk Pregnancy

1st time Mom, high risk, quick question and Introduction!

Hi Ladies!

I just wanted to introduce myself to the group! My DH and I have been married for going on 3 years and we have been together for over 7 years. We were not TTC (as I have been on the pill for about 13 years) but one snuck in and now I am 10 weeks pregnant. My DH and I are so happy to be first time parents. I am due June 24.

Now alittle about the high risk side of me, I was diagnosed with a prolasped Mitrol Vavle and Rheumatiod Arthritis when I was 15 and I have had complications from then on, in recent years they have found I also have Lupus, a slight seizure disorder as well as fibromylagia. So from the first OB appt they said  I needed to see Complicated OB at our local hospital (they dont like to call it high risk in our state, RI, they call us complicated). I go for my first appt next Tuesday.  I was just wondering what I should expect from these appointments? My husband and I were also planning on adopting later in life due to my complicated medical history but with this miracle we are trying to do all we can to make sure nothing goes wrong with this pregnancy! Any advice on high risk ob appts or any advice in general is welcome! I look forward to talking to all of you for the next 7 months

  • Hello and congrats on your pregnancy! I am also a high risk pregnancy and am currently pregnant with my 3rd and am 13 weeks along. I can also say I have 2 heart conditions, have had 3 heart surgeries and also have Sjogrens which is an auto immune disorder as well. The only difference about being High Risk currently is you will just be seeing a specialist OBGYN that covers patients who need a more in depth look at your babies and your own health and what will be needed to get you both through your pregnancy safely with the least amount of complications. They will only need to know your background and your conditions a little bit more and depending on how you are doing you might have a few more appointments then usual to make sure everything is progressing right and possibly a few more ultrasounds for the same thing. No need to be concerned. My rule of thumb, always thing possitive, negative thoughts affect your body negativly :)

  • Congrats! I usually don't post over here although I am high risk myself. I'm pregnant with twins and  a cancer survivor. I have damage (scar tissue) to my left main bronchus due to radiation and also they are watching my heart very closely due to cardiotoxic chemotherapy and chest radiation. Also, hypothyroid but that's well controlled.

I went to see a high risk starting at 15 weeks after my lung collapsed due to the radiation damage (they did a bronchoscopy and dilated the bronchus to get it back up and running again). So I have seen both. It just seems like they monitor me more at the high risk and maybe also because I have twins. No big deal I actually like the fact that they are on top of everything, it makes me feel better that my babies and me are being watched so closely! Good Luck <:
