Can a sinus infecition decrease my milk supply?

Hey ladies. I have been back to work for 5 weeks. I have been pumping and have been able to keep up with my LO until I got a sinus infection. It seems like I am having to supplement one feeding everyday and I just seem to pump less and less. Is this related to the sinus infection or am I just drying up?

Any tips on how to increase my milk supply? I have heard of fenugreek but how often can I take it?

Thanks!

Re: Can a sinus infecition decrease my milk supply?

  • are you taking anything for the sinus infection? Any decongestant is a big no no while breastfeeding, it's designed to dry you up, and dry you up it will! Both the snot and the milk! :(

If not, yes, it can definitely still hurt your supply. Drink LOTS of water. Being sick dehydrates you.

  • No antihistamines and drink tons of fluids, water, milk and juice. Pump more often than usual to stimulate more milk production. Hope this helps, this was the suggestion I was given since my allergies are terrible and cause frequent infections. Now that I'm not on meds for the allergies, I'm constantly worried about infections, but was told if I get one to follow these instructions. Hope this helps
