When did you go to 4 hr feeding sched?

When did you move to a 4 hour feeding schedule and how did you know it was time to do so?

TIA

Re: When did you go to 4 hr feeding sched?

  • We were able to push to a 4 hour schedule I think when they were about 9 weeks old...once they could handle taking in 5 or 6 ounces at one sitting. They were FF so I think it's easier to assess how much their taking in then.
  • 5 months. We were having some wacky naps that came with the timing from a 3.5 hour schedule so we moved to a 4 hour schedule - up at 7, nap at 9, up at 11, nap at 1, up at 3, down at 7p.

  • we never did...my girls always ate around 6, 9, 12, 3, 6...even when we switched to milk they kept this schedule....

they still have milk when they get up now (and maybe a small snack) around 7am, breakfast at dc at 9am, lunch around 12 noon, snack after nap at 3ish and dinner around 6pm...

  • We never did - the 3 hr schedule seemed to work and they slept well so we decided not to mess with it.  Plus it was easy to transition from the 5 feeding schedule to a 3 meals/2 snacks schedule as they got older, and it still works well for us.

  • We never did either.  They still took a bottle every 3 hours until we started doing 3 solid meals a day (around 10.5 months).  Now they are down to one bottle first thing in the morning, and then WCM with meals and snacks.

  • Mine still eat at least every 3 hours.  I don't think my oldest ever went to a 4 hour feeding schedule.  On the 10 month old schedules that people posted the other day, I couldn't believe how infrequently babies were taking bottles.  Maybe it's a FFing thing? (or just a bottle thing?)/ Bfing thing?  Not sure.
  • My guys came home from the NICU (at 17 days old) on a 4 hour schedule.
  • 7 months I think. They switched on their own.

  • I wish! We're on a 3 hour during the day and then they go 8-10 at night. We're trying to bump up their feeds a little to see if they'll go further, but I'm hesitant to mess with anything as it might mess up the night routine.

  • Day 1, because they were sleepy little turds, who we had to wake up every 4 hours to make them eat something.  (Formula fed, so our L&D nurses and the hospital pedi were fine with them waiting that long, as long as they ate a decent amount throughout the day).  For the first 2 weeks, they'd sleep most of that 4 hours, we'd wake them up, they'd chug bottles down, they'd be awake for about half an hour, and then we started all over again.  By the time they were finally "awake" and not sleeping all. day. long. they had settled into a 4 hour schedule, and if we tried to get them to eat more often (and we did because we thought it might help Ry's reflux to eat smaller amounts more often), it all went to hell and they would barely eat at all.
  • Never did and we still use it now for our milk- they are severly underweight so they still have 5 bottles of milk a day! We loved the 3 hour schedule. Yes, it was alot of work and hard to go many places but it kept our babies sooo insainly happy!

  • My boys moved on their own to a 4hr schedule when they were about 2 months old. We were following EASY and after 1.5 hrs of awake time they started napping a good 2-2.5 hrs!

  • We only go 4 hours at night and sometimes when naps run long. Heck, I get cranky when I haven't eaten in four hours, so I just don't expect my kids to do it.
