It's Wednesday Ladies! Halfway through the week...Woohoo!
And a lot of you have drs appointments today so good luck to Ekaj_Woof on a good cervical length, Imanurse and 3citygirl with your OB/MFM appts and to Spain116 getting those steroid shots. Lydiarose - hope they release you today so you can be home tomorrow for Thanksgiving - but at the least, congrats on 34 weeks!
Is it just me or are there a lot of new bed resters?? I didn't even know what bed rest was 9 weeks ago...now I feel like an expert. I can easily think of a dozen things I'd rather be an expert at that's for sure...
So if you are new to bed rest, please join the discussion. It really does help to hear from other women who know what you're going through. Or keep lurking...whatever works best for you!
I hope everyone finds a way to celebrate Thanksgiving, no matter how different it may be this year from every other year of our lives. And TAKE IT EASY!!! Your LO will thank you. One day. Really.

Re: Daily Bed Rest Check-In (WED) 11/23/11
Hi everyone - and good luck to those with appointments today! Mine is in an hour - nervous!!
1. What has bed rest taught you about yourself that surprised you?
I am surprised at my patience and my ability to put myself aside. The "poor me" attitude went out the door very quickly - I realized that this was not about ME, it was about my little guy. And let's just say that in the past I was more of a ME girl!
2. Have you considered asking any close relatives to get the tetanus/pertussis shot after LO's arrival?
I don't even know what that is!!!! I need to start learning about what to do what little guy gets here. As I've said before, I have so far only focused on him not getting here too soon.
3. For FTM's, what baby item are you
most excited to use? For subsequent Mom's, what is one baby item that you can NOT live without?
I don't have anything yet, but I did finally start a registry. And for some reason, I just can't wait to use the tub and give him a bath. Bath time just seems like so much fun! (I could be horribly wrong here!)
4. Updates & Vents
We live away from our families, but my parents decided to drive in today with a fully-cooked feast (after my husband forced the issue). I wish my family would have insisted on coming without a strong-arm, but the ends justify the means!
Good luck everyone who has big news today! I hope it's exactly what you are wishing for!
1. What has bed rest taught you about yourself that surprised you?
How much I want this baby girl to be healthy and strong. It's not that I didn't want her to be healthy before I got sick, I didn't really consider the alternative. Now, it's all I want, over everything else.
2. Have you considered asking any close relatives to get the tetanus/pertussis shot after LO's arrival?
LOL I also don't know what that is! Google search time!
3. For FTM's, what baby item are you most excited to use? For subsequent Mom's, what is one baby item that you can NOT live without?
The bumbo seat. I want to see her sitting in that on the floor while I do laundry. It means she's strong enough, and it means that we have it our routine. It's a vision of "real life".
4. Updates & Vents
The doctors aren't sure what to do with me. I stabled out so quickly they don't know if I should go home or stay here. It's a good problem in my opinion!Good morning ladies! Hope everyone's day is off to a good start. Good luck to everyone with appointments today!
1. What has bed rest taught you about yourself that surprised you? That I really can do it! We are surviving and LO seems to be doing well. And financially things are very tight for us with me not getting paid but we are managing. People have been so kind to us.
2. Have you considered asking any close relatives to get the tetanus/pertussis shot after LO's arrival? Not yet. I am hoping our parents are up to date on their tdap shot so we don't have to ask them to get it. They'll probably think it's overkill since I think my sister/BIL and BIL/SIL didn't ask them to get one when they had their LOs. But our baby will probably be a preemie and I don't care what people think honestly.
3. For FTM's, what baby item are you most excited to use? For subsequent Mom's, what is one baby item that you can NOT live without? Hmm, not sure! Haven't gotten any gifts off our registry and haven't had a shower but I'm hoping we get our video monitor. It looks kind of cool!
4. Updates & Vents: Excited to get out of the house for my 2:30 MFM appt and 5 p.m. OB visit! Hoping LO still looks good, that my fluid level is the same, if not better and hoping MFM doesn't want to admit me for hospital bedrest.
1. What has bed rest taught you about yourself that surprised you?
That I need to not be so type-A and allow people to help me.
2. Have you considered asking any close relatives to get the tetanus/pertussis shot after LO's arrival?
Already did and some already have.
3. For FTM's, what baby item are you most excited to use? For subsequent Mom's, what is one baby item that you can NOT live without?
Uppababy vista stroller or all the clothes!
4. Updates & Vents
Had a growth scan today - measuring right on schedule not that I am going to deliver anytime close to my due date. Periantologist is really encouraging me to get a fetal MRI so we can get a better view of a variant in my LO's brain. I am going to try to get an appointment today, but the whole thing really scares me. Otherwise everything is looking good. Hoping to get to 37 weeks or so.
Good luck to everyone with appts! Mine is in a couple hours.
1. What has bed rest taught you about yourself that surprised you?
That I need to not be so type-A and allow people to help me.This exactly! Also I do that thing where I hint at what I want instead of asking. Annoying, right? That doesn't cut it now so I'm getting better at flat out asking. And I'm learning to stop saying "we" need to take out the trash and just say to DH "please take out the trash." Gross, right? I guess i'm just used to saying it as a reminder that one of us should do it, when now it has to be him.
2. Have you considered asking any close relatives to get the tetanus/pertussis shot after LO's arrival? DH sent an email to our close family and friends who will be around the baby in the fist six months asking them to get one. At first I felt uncomfortable asking friends who may only see him once or twice, but DH is a family practice doc so I'm hoping they took it as advice from a medical professional who works with babies and not as an anal parent1. What has bed rest taught you about yourself that surprised you? That I don't hate the grocery store as much as I thought I did...I would loveee to go grocery shopping!
2. Have you considered asking any close relatives to get the tetanus/pertussis shot after LO's arrival? I haven't...
3. For FTM's, what baby item are you most excited to use? For subsequent Mom's, what is one baby item that you can NOT live without? I'm excited to use the baby's swing...I hope he/she likes it!
4. Updates & Vents I had an appointment this morning...I'm 34 weeks Friday and she said I've now started to dilate a bit...I'm hoping for 36 weeks. I'm also aware that after all this, I could go past my due date. I've learned that the doctors have no better idea than I do!
1. What has bed rest taught you about yourself that surprised you?
Learned I like cleaning more than I thought. I miss just getting up and doing stuff.
2. Have you considered asking any close relatives to get the tetanus/pertussis shot after LO's arrival?
I've talked it over with my parents and DH plans to talk to his about it.
3. For FTM's, what baby item are you most excited to use? For subsequent Mom's, what is one baby item that you can NOT live without?
Can't wait to use my Fisher Price lamb swings!!
4. Updates & Vents
Was able to get a pedicure done and get rid of my ouchie ingrown toenail!!
1. What has bed rest taught you about yourself that surprised you?
Mostly that I really am a control freak (seriously!!), and I'm humbled by realizing how much I take (took) for granted being able to do things for myself when there are plenty of people who need to rely on others for the small things in life for the rest of their lives. Really motivates me to want to do more for people when I'm back on my feet again...
2. Have you considered asking any close relatives to get the tetanus/pertussis shot after LO's arrival?
Haven't thought about it but now I'll do some thinking!
3. For FTM's, what baby item are you most excited to use? For subsequent Mom's, what is one baby item that you can NOT live without?
Probably high chair/spoons etc. I think there is something gratifying about watching someone/something eat (eg. why feeding animals at zoos is fun for young and old!), knowing that it will make them grow big and strong. I'm also kind of a foodie so I look forward to introducing them to different foods (I mean, not crazy foods like sushi right away, HAHA) and seeing what they like, making food (hopefully if I have energy), etc. I think it's one way each individual's personalities show...like I actually read this article in Parenting where, to the parents surprise, their child LOVED bitter adult vegetables like broccoli rabe, etc. and not the sweet stuff like corn, etc. Haha!
4. Updates & Vents
Doing a little better emotionally today.
1. What has bed rest taught you about yourself that surprised you?
That it's ok to not be in total control of everything all the time. I'm sure this sounds ridiculous, but my break through was when I asked DH for cranberry juice the other night, and did not tell him exactly which glass I wanted it in, how many ice cubes or how full the glass should be. I let him do it all on his own and guess what, it was the best glass of cranberry I've ever had!
2. Have you considered asking any close relatives to get the tetanus/pertussis shot after LO's arrival?
Right now just DH and I, but I guess I need to talk to my mom and in-laws since they plan to be around him. Really not sure how to bring it up but if its important enough, we will.
3. For FTM's, what baby item are you most excited to use? For subsequent Mom's, what is one baby item that you can NOT live without?
FTM and I'm most excited about the stroller - that means we'll be out enjoying the fresh air together and being active!
4. Updates & Vents
Contracting like crazy today; pubic area gets SO sore when this happens. Hopefully they calm down and I don't end up back in L&D! My Mom arrives tonight from the northeast and I can't wait to see her...or have her special stuffing and monkey bread tomorrow (uh-oh, GD #'s...) and I'm grateful that it will be a quiet, small dinner tomorrow and pray I will resist the urge to do anything. Just grateful that Mom & DH can cook the turkey.
1. What has bed rest taught you about yourself that surprised you?
Well, I've only been on bed rest for 3 days in the hospital, but so far its taught me that I have to learn to let go of some control. I'm a nurse, so I'm Type A and control-freak and want to be in the mix of everything, but I can't do that now. Its hard to give up all the reins, but I have no choice.
2. Have you considered asking any close relatives to get the tetanus/pertussis shot after LO's arrival?
I hadn't thought of it, but we definitely have already started discussing with our families what it means to have a preemie, etc. as far as staying away if you are ill, hand washing, not being out in public, etc.
3. For FTM's, what baby item are you most excited to use? For subsequent Mom's, what is one baby item that you can NOT live without?
The crib. My husband just finished putting it together over the weekend and its beautiful. I get choked up when I think about taking her home and putting her to sleep in HER bed.
4. Updates & Vents
Got the news today from our MFM that we will NOT be going home until the baby comes. I understand that its whats best, but man, it was hard to hear. Trying to stay positive! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Hello, Just wanted to introduce myself. Today was my first full day of bed-rest after spending most the AM at the hospital for my 3 Hour Glucose test. My results will be in Friday. I had GD with DD and HBP. This time my BP has been in the 140's to the 170's/ 80 something since 13 weeks. Friday I was admitted for PTL but was able to control it. But contractions came back so Full home bed-rest till Tuesday when I have my next apt. But if my contractions hit 5 an hour its back to the hospital for me. Although I am really board. I think that when I was told that I am really at risk for this baby to come I wanted to cry. I don't feel bad for myself it's my little girl who I want to be able to take care of. She is with her grandparent's till Friday and her daddy will be home this weekend to help and she goes to daycare Monday and Tuesday and hoping I get cleared to be able to run around after her. I hope this little guy stays in a few more weeks and get big and healthy.
1. What has bed rest taught you about yourself that surprised you?
That I really do get bored very easily, And that I am willing to do what ever I can to make sure my baby boy is happy and healthy.
2. Have you considered asking any close relatives to get the tetanus/pertussis shot after LO's arrival?
Yes, DH got his when DD was born and I am getting my booster after DS is born. Both my parents got it when DD was born and DH made his dad get his when he lived with us. We are working on his step dad and brother but his mom is a nurse so she has hers done regularly. We even paid for our daycare lady to have her booster done. She planned on getting it but we wanted to make sure it was done.
3. For FTM's, what baby item are you most excited to use? For subsequent Mom's, what is one baby item that you can NOT live without?
The baby swing. Only time I was able to clean.
4. Updates & Vents
Glucose test results come in Friday and my next APT is Tuesday.
Late to the party, I just figured out my internet in the hospital. I am still here and puffy from retained fluids, less pain today though.
I have found out I really love soup!!
