Parenting after 35

What's on the menu?

You all are so far ahead of me.. talking about Hankukkah/Christmas, etc!!  Blasphemy!

So... what ya'll eatin' tomorrow??????

I have my 24# bird, and if I can find salt pork, I going to try slapping that on top for flavor.  Bacon makes everything taste better.

Then the traditional stuff... Dressing, Mashed potatoes, gravy, sweet potatoes, green beans, rolls, pecan and pumpkin pie.

And a big glass of wine for the cook.

Re: What's on the menu?

  • DH roasts a turkey with veggies beneath it- turns out soooo yummy. i make a very simple (but fanfriggintastic) stuffing and very traditional (back of can recipe) green bean casserole.

i grew up having pasta with every meal every day so i like my holiday meals VERY traditional. : )

  • Pretty standard fare:

Turkey, which DH will brine overnight tonight
    Mashed sweet potatoes
    Stuffing
And a new addition to the menu, oven roasted brussel sprouts

Pineapple upside down cake for dessert (okay, this part is less standard but a fave of DH's that he will bake)

    DD1 is 3, DD2 is 1.
  • We're going to a fancy restaurant with my mom, but if we hosted it would be like last year; Turkey, gravy, awesome stuffing - the recipe of which I got in a cooking class I took - candied yams, green beans and bacon, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie or pumpkin cheesecake.
  • Okay, not fair at all you guys. Tomorrow I'm running a meeting with my work boys, and we have sandwiches and salads being brought in. I need me some turkey and fixings, this all sounds far better than boring sandwiches!
  • We got a smoked turkey from a local farm - can't wait to try!!  And then roasted brussel sprouts, hearts of palm salad, mashed sweet potatoes, stuffing and for dessert - pumpkin cake and a salted caramel apple pie.  need to leave work and start on that pie ;)
  • Roasted Turkey

    Green Beans Au Gratin

    smashed potatoes

    Corn

    Apple braid (vs. pie)

    garlic knots (bread)

(I think that's it but I feel like I'm leaving something out...)

  • Roast turkey, Alton Brown brine style
Mashed potatoes (I make with less butter, chicken stock and reduced fat cream cheese -- sooooo good)
    Gravy
Brussel sprouts (bought prepared -- we cheated here)
    sweet potato casserole
raspberry orange cranberry sauce (just finished making that!)
stuffing muffins (cooking in a muffin tin)
    blanched green beans with shallots

We have a selection of things for dessert that we picked up and I'm trying a pumpkin pie recipe.

  • I'm escaping from my family and heading to my SIL's for Thanksgiving. I guess I'll eat whatever they have. lol. My job was to bring a fruit platter.

We did save our 22 lb turkey for next month (we'll invite friends) and I'll cook up MY traditional meal. I miss my stuffing (homemade) and sweet potato casserole with marshmallows.

     Bacon makes everything taste better.

Yes it does! I added chopped bacon to my stuffing as a surprise for MH.

Menu: turkey, carrots, asparagus, corn, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes (Pioneer Woman's recipe), stuffing, green beans, and apple pie for dessert (courtesy of MH--he makes a d@mn good pie).

I'm still toying with the idea of making a pumpkin butter cake. I feel like the table needs something pumpkin for Thanksgiving...and I like pumpkin.
