The mini pill

I know this has been addressed before, but the awesome bump search doesn't work for me. So I am bringing it up again ;] Is anyone on the mini pill? And do you have any experience with it? Just wondering how effective it is. My doc said we don't have to use condoms after two weeks, and that just sounds crazy to me!

Re: The mini pill

  • I was told the same thing! I started taking it almost two weeks ago.

  • I was on it for years and never had any problems. It was effective for me and when I quit taking it it took me 6 months to get pregnant. My sister got pregnant while using it and it is most likely because she wasn't really good about taking it at the same time everyday. I set an alarm and made sure I took a pill at the same time everyday and never had any issues. If I could take hormones still I would use it again.

  • I've been on it for about a week, and I have had my period for about 3 days. :( I'm super-bummed about that. Also, the product insert says that it will stop about 50% of women from ovulating, which doesn't seem like such a good number to me. That said, I will be continuing to take it (religiously at the same time every day, because the packaging also says that if you're off by more than 3 hours, you should use a backup method of bc), and I'll probably use a backup method regardless because of that scary 50%. Based on the insert, I'd totally be switching to a different form of bc if I wasn't concerned about my BF supply.

  • I picked up my prescription yesterday and am going to start taking it on Sunday.  My nurse just made sure to emphasize taking it the same time every day.  The little insert with the pills said to make sure to take it at the same time and no more than 3 hours off that time for effectiveness.  Makes me a little nervous.

  • I know tooooo many women who have gotten ku on the minipill, as well as anecdotal stories about it drying up your milk supply if you are bf'ing. Those were dealbreakers for me.

  • This is my 3rd time using it. I have had no issues with it. My MW told me it is about 97% effective if you are EBF'ing.
  • I started the mini pill two weeks ago and I am not at all comfortable using it.  After reading the info that came with it, I'm just convinced it's not going to work for me.  I have an alarm set to remind me to take it at exactly the same time every day, but I'm still nervous.

  • Just picked up my prescription yesterday. I heard it doesn't affect your supply, only the regular pill does.

  • Yes I was told because it is progesterone only, it does not affect your supply. Its the estrogen in regular BCP that offs your supply. Plus I am also on Reglan, and hoping that ups my supply since I am already having issues with that. The NP I saw also said about the whole 3 hours thing, she said she tells her patients if you are 3 hours late, either don't have sex for 3 days or use condoms. And I am allergic to latex condoms, so I would have to buy the bajillion dollar ones hah.
