Bakugan? Bey Blade? Anyone?

Does anyone know what this crap is?  I don't let DS (5) watch the shows, but he's seen enough of the intro song to Bey Blade and the beginnings of the shows before I knew what it was about, and he wants this stuff.

Can anyone educate me on what this stuff is?  I'm much more comfortable with Lego's and Super Heroes, but I'm out of my element completely on this.  And the Lego's were a stretch to begin with.

  • DS doesn't watch either show, but he has Beyblades. They are basically tops that "battle" each other. There are a few different stadiums that you can get to battle in. That and two tops are enough to start. DS has something that allows you to launch two tops at once which is nice because he can battle alone.

  • Bakugans are plastic magnetized balls that open when placed on a magnetic surface (they come with info cards with magnets in them). They have a point system and the kids "battle" with them and my son has traded (albeit poorly) the actual Bakugan and the cards. My kid loves them.

I know about as much about Beyblades as the poster before. DS is asking for some for his birthday (Thursday!) and Xmas.

  • Thank you ladies.  So, any recommendations on which to get?  Starter packs or something else?

I love having boys, but at this moment, at least I'd know which Barbie to get.

  • DS started out with the red stadium, sold alone, and a two pack of Beyblades. There are different characters, but I just picked out colors I liked ;)

    Thank you so so much!

  • Bakugans are soooo last year. ;-)

Beyblades are where it's at with the K/1 boys this year. To get started you need a plastic stadium and two Beyblades (spinning tops, basically.) They're actually pretty fun. Dd loves playing them with her big brother.

And Legos are a stretch for you? Are you kidding me!? I think we're from different planets, LOL. Legos are just about the most awesome educational toys ever!

  • DS is almost 4 and he's seen Beyblades from older kids at daycare. We got him this gun launcher thing and one spinny top thing. He seems fine with it and it's a cheaper route.  No stadium.
  • Big lots will have beyblades on sale from 5 to 10 pm today for $4.88 per pack.  They were $8 a pack at TRU this weekend.  The stadiums are inexpensive, but I guess the portable one is the one to get and it is a bit pricier at around $30.
