Trouble TTC

How does your uro/RE grade motility?

Our reports have grades A-D, with A being rapid progression, B = slow, C = no progression, D = immotile.  Just curious if this is the norm, or if different docs' grades mean different things. :)

Re: How does your uro/RE grade motility?

  • That may be progressive motility which someone posted about yesterday.  I'm just learning about motility myself since we just found out it is an issue for us.  My RE grades progressive motility on a scale of 1 to 4 with 4 being the best.

Hopefully sbrowns will chime in.  She seems to be our board expert.

After more than 2 years of fertility treatments, FET did the trick!
IVF March 2012 - BFP! - Severe OHSS = 8 days in the hospital in kidney failure
    No heartbeat at 10w6d
    FET August 27,2012 = BFP!
    It's a boy!

  • I'm assuming it means forward progression, since C = no progression, I'm assuming that means those guys are swimming in circles, or moving their tails but not making any progress in a direction.

  • Hey there! Each clinic has it's own system of grading, so you should ask the individual lab you're working with. General rule of thumb is that only the top two grades (3/4 or A/B in your case) survive the wash and make it to the egg. :) GL!

  • Thanks, sbrowns!  I've never gone to a uro appointment with my DH, so I'll just send this question along with him.  Our counts aren't high enough to do IUI right now, so it doesn't really matter, but I was curious. :)

Yeah, DH's uro's lab prints out a GREAT detailed sheet that gives us each grade, the % of sperm in each category, etc. In the end we needed IVF anyway, but we're glad we worked with the uro! Good luck hun!

  • Thanks, dear!  DH is going to his 9-month post-op next Tuesday, but I'm not expecting much.  We have doubled our count since the varicocelectomy, at least, bt motility is jumping around a bit and morph is still 0%.

Huh, it surprises me that you haven't seen even a bit of improvement. DH just did his 8 month post sample last week. He had really been improving, and then this one was back down in count and motility. Morph stayed up though. What the heck MFI?? lol

I hope you get GREAT results next week!
