NBR: Mouse in the House

UGHHHH - I feel like my house is sooo dirty ... We have a mouse in our house... He is eluding capture. I have tried two different traps (the kind that kill them but you cant see them), and in the first trap he was able to eat the peanut butter without getting caught, and he the has avoided the second trap, I think. Or has managed to just not get caught in the second trap (you cant access the peanut butter in the same way as the first trap, but it looks like he hasnt eaten the pb).

Anyways, he is hiding out under my sink, mear the microwave and in the drawer under the oven... I havent found any "trace" (re:droppings) of him anywhere else.

I know its prob because of the weather change, and I need to put traps in the garage and in the kitchen, but really, I just feel gross and get all skeeved out.

I mean my house isnt spotless - it is comfortably messy, I call it, but the idea of having a mouse makes me feel like one of the extreme cases on hoarders .. and I have a fear that if I dont catch this mouse ASAP, then I will have an infestation on my hands.

  • Tell Tiki to get to it!!!   We had one in our house a couple years ago and it totally skeeved me out, so I know how you feel.  I'm trying to think of what M did to finally catch it...I will have to ask him.  Good luck!  You can hide out at my house ;)

  • Aw, it has nothing to do with being clean! You have a warm, cozy home and little mouse wants to be part of it!

We get a couple every winter. Our cats (yes, we have 3 and still get a mouse) only play with them. The cats do help round the mouse up and even hold the tail while I get them! I always have to be the bad guy and kill them (I chase them with a plastic container and trap them inside with the lid)!

Make sure your traps are tight against the wall, like the trap end. They run the wall edges. Try baiting with a Hershey Kiss too, they like them! =) I prefer the old fashion snap traps, just have to keep them high away from pets and kids.

    Good luck!

  • You can borrow my cat for the weekend.  She is an excellent mouser :)

We used to have them in the apartment we lived in, and we never caught any with the traps, I ended up catching all of them myself by cornering them and then scooping them up in a designated tuperware container.

  • Ughhh - I wish Tiki could catch it! He pretty much only comes out at night, a few weekends ago, it was really quiet in my living room and I heard him scratching in the wall between my living room and kitchen :::shudder:::
